Description It was the last evening that she might breathe the same atmosphere in which he, the beloved one, lived, -the last evening when she might behold the deep blue sea and the starry heavens- an eternal night, in which she might neither think nor dream, awaited her

I wanted to practise some sort of landscape. Normally I would never draw such a thing because it scares the hell out of me... But fear is not an option! So at least I tried to draw this landscape. It is not perfect, but it felt good to try.
Now, however nice the landscape on the photograph was, landscapes are a bit too boring for me, so I had been wondering of what to add to the picture. It happened to be flying mermaids.

I once bought a beautiful version of Hans Andersen's Fairytales, from 1918. I remembered the tale of the Little Mermaid, in which our mermaid did not only wish to become a human in order to win the prince's heart, but also to obtain a human soul -an immortal soul. The witch gives her a poison to turn her tail into legs, but she fails to marry the prince and she dies. But instead of dissolving into foam, like mermaids have to when they die, she becomes a daughter of the air - transparant flying creatures with beautiful voices, who can acquire immortal souls by deeds of kindness.
Hence the flying mermaids.

The original drawing is in dark blue (I forgot to take my pencils to art lesson, so I had no choice) but I adapted the colours a bit to make it fit more to the image I had in mind.

Nothing that special, but I hope you enjoy

--> It is a shitty scan, but please tell me what you think of the drawing and what I can do to improve at drawing landscapes I'd appreciate it!

I absolutely love it! The atmosphere is great, it gives you this kindy of eerie, but kind feeling... hard to describe. It really has the same feeling as fairytales have, that's what I want to say
Awesome work!

Thank you very much! I am so in love with fairytales, it is always a challenge to get closer to that specific feeling with my drawings

The style suits perfectly the concept of the picture, as it gives kind of movement and some nostalgy (maybe a memory fading?). Concept that is also very interesting. I've been thinking of getting an old copy of Grimm's tales for a while ^^
