Description well.. this is pretty much the same setup as in my previous screenshot

the main difference is that i've tinkered a bit more with the wallpaper
by using the Badge N Stitches from apple's iCloud.com website. [link]

besides, i cleaned up a bit the mess in my menubar,
added two Yahoo!Widgets and exchanged some of
the icons in my DragtThing dock at the bottom center.

i also have de-saturated the wall at the top and used
a different pattern on the bottom one.

and of course i'm using osx lion now.

RESOURCES |- Obsidian Menu Bar by Max Rudberg
- Obsidian Menu Icon Template by Max Rudberg
- Informer Widget by Andy,Andy
- widescapeWeather Widget by Robert Wünsch
- SimpleOne-Dragthing by ~StefanKa (set to fully transparent)
WALLPAPER |- selfmade dock- and iconbackgrounds
- badge and stitches graphics extracted from iCloud.com
- bottom wall pattern used from osx lion's default login screen and then colorized
APPS IN USE |- Diaplaperture (for the round screen corners)
- DragThing (with settings to grayscale all icons)
- Yahoo!Widgets (for monitoring weather, time and HDD space)
- as well as a few others more, but which don't have an effect on how this screenshot looks

due to the fact that i'm using graphics from apple™, i unfortunately can't and won't share the wallpaper.
sorry!!

anything else you wanna know?
just ask.

OtisBee In reply to tdogmets [2011-11-27 10:28:52 +0000 UTC]

a tutorial on what exactly?
on how to arrange the various elements, hence the setup?
or on how i created/modified certain things in photoshop?

please, try to be a bit more specific and maybe try to sound a little less demanding.
yeah, that'd be nice. thx.

I dont see why you cannot share the wallpaper, unless its officially from the Apple OSX Operating System
Shame, its really nice too

OtisBee In reply to Sk8rDude7 [2011-11-20 13:16:43 +0000 UTC]

thanks Dude!

well, since i haven't created some elements used in the wallpaper myself, i basically don't own the copyright, which then again forbids me to share or redistribute what's not mine. it doesn't make any difference where i got those elements from. i haven't created them and as a consequence i'd be infringing on someone else's copyright.

and that's in disregard to whether i'd use something from a big company such as apple, or from just the next random private person. copyright is copyright and it doesn't even need to be claimed to be copyright protected. it just is by default, unless stated otherwise by the company or creator.

sorry.

put like that its more than obviously easy to understand.. looks great non-the-less ... seems to me, usually people are more than willing to share their creations and such, I might have to crop it and remedy my own lol - ya gotta bend the rules sometimes, no offense. your work is still explicitly yours and still just as awesome!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to Sk8rDude7 [2011-11-21 11:51:46 +0000 UTC]

no offense taken.

i know what you mean with bending the rules and i'm sure that nobody will probably ever come to sue me for sharing some graphical elements from a site, which aren't even online anymore.

but then again, for me it's not a matter of being caught or not. being a designer myself, i simply respect the rules, hence the properties of someone else. using them for my own personal purposes is fine. but sharing them is a completely different story.

besides, i'm also a moderator and currently a community volunteer (CV) as well, which makes people somewhat "look up" to me, and i just don't want to be a bad example, you know.

anywho.. feel free to crop and use whatever you like for your own usage and thanks for the wonderful feedback towards my work, Dude!

Absolut genial... Cool...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to joerg285 [2011-10-20 14:37:18 +0000 UTC]

oh, vielen dank!

Looks great! Do you know any dock for Mac that looks like in your screenshot?
This one is just a part of the wall, correct? I would like to have that look for my dock..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to tripiatrik [2011-10-11 08:22:15 +0000 UTC]

unfortunately i don't, but danke für das kompliment.

Hi! I'm sorry if this a stupid question, but how did you get your Dragthing icons to draw in grayscale? I cannot find that setting for the life of me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to CrystalineMelody [2011-09-14 10:32:14 +0000 UTC]

well, it's a setting in DragThing's main preferences.
my DT is in german, so i don't know the exact phrasing of the terms used.
select the second icon from the left (should read something like "appearance" or so).
then, in the right column under "Symbols" (or "Icons" maybe) you should find the "greyscale" option.

here is a screenshot of how the settings look in my DT preferences.

Sympli-Me In reply to OtisBee [2012-09-06 16:08:29 +0000 UTC]

Sadly I don't have any of those options The only icon options they have in the english version seem to be what size you want them and if you want them with or without a reflection I don't have half the options you do. I'm wondering if it's a version thing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to Sympli-Me [2012-09-06 20:45:53 +0000 UTC]

hmm, that's odd.
what version do you have? mine is 5.9.9.
you haven't confused the dock settings with the main DT preferences, have you?
the greyscale option is an applicationwide setting, so it's in the apps main prefs accordingly.

Ooh my gosh, I'm an idiot! Thank you so much - I don't know how, but I was completely missing that preference. Your desktop is amazing, and I really appreciate the help

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to CrystalineMelody [2011-09-16 08:40:47 +0000 UTC]

nah, no problem.
i guess with all the various settings for dock, layer and main it's fairly easy to lose track of where everything is located. in fact, i'm often having trouble in finding certain settings myself.

anyways.. i'm glad i could help. thanks for your kind words of appreciation.

copy the URL from that link i gave you and paste it in a new browser window.
once the image shows up, just rightclick on it and save it.
it's just an image and not a skin file, so you'd have to manually place it on your wallpaper (in photoshop or Gimp or so).

if that doesn't help, then i'm afraid i can't help you. sorry.
