Have Marauder's crew made it home? Was their plane and bodies found?

LΓΌtzow was called the "man made out of ice" because he never showed any feelings. Just before he died, two american P-47s tried to shoot him down. Later, the two pilots said LΓΌtzows plane went straight into the ground.

Putting his picture in the corner as a kind of shadow really works for me. I think it's very good indeed! Nice!

I suppose jet engines explode more readily than prop ones do. But a lovely painting!!

what I want to know is how does a P-47 Thunderbolt shoot down an ME-262? I know piston engined fighters regularly shot them down in turning fights, or when the ME was RTB/Taking off, but I don't know how a P47 could do it other then just getting REALLY lucky.

Although, I will say that I heard that one of the first ME262 kills was credited to a B-17s waist gunner... which THAT is impressive to say the least.

also, maybe he had target fixation and so didnt see the p47 and so was "caught out" or perhaps in general the massive amounts of allied fighters ensured that he was almost always going to get bounched.

In terms of turning fights, if the pilot remained disciplined and only turned at the higher speeds (over 500km/h)the me262 could out turn every plane as the speeds increased, the me262 also didnt bleed energy like the prop planes did. However whilst the 30mm canons were great at streading the bombers, they were not effective on this plane for anything other than shooting at formation flying bombers.

Gain some altitude and then dive. Make slashing attacks on the jet as it tries to run. I think a P-47D in a dive could easily keep up with an Me 262 and with 8 .50 caliber guns, be able to shoot it down quickly.
