I sympathise: I know all too well the grief and sense of loss when a beloved cat dies but can only imagine your devastation at not knowing what has happened to your pet.

Don't give up on him yet. My wife had a cat that disappeared one day. He was gone for almost a year. Then some workmen found him in a warehouse about 30 miles away living with a bunch of other stray cats. They were able to bring him home due to the collar he was wearing with a tag. It was so worn it just about fell off when they picked him up. He was terribly thin and dishevelled. When he got home he meowed non stop for about 3 days then he shut up and almost never meowed again. I guess he had quite a tale to tell.

my guy had no collar, he was always a stray but he adopted me for a number of years, I'm afraid I had a feeling the last time I saw him it was the end, this pic was taken a day or two before he left for good...

I am so sorry to hear this. My wife and I lost one of our cats for 10 days. Just about the time we were beginning to think he was gone, he showed up on the doorstep. While I hope for a good outcome, pet owners can often sense when something has gone "wrong". Was he acting sick prior to disappearing? Or maybe just acting weird...?
This is why my wife and I don't let our cats go out... the not knowing what happened to them is more distressful than the actual knowledge that they are gone.

he was not eating, he often did this, I suspect he had other people feeding him and my hope is that he has a new home but he has always had special places he would visit and there has been no sign of him

oh no!! I hope he's ok. My cat, Miles, was gone for two weeks during the winter of 2006. He showed up one day, very thin and desperate looking with cuts on the tops of his paws. I think he got locked in someone's shed or something. He wouldn't go outside for about a month after that. I was so thrilled to have him back home with me!

Aw....I know the feeling, but don't give up yet. I know that's easier said than done.
I lost a cat for over a month, during a bad snow storm when I was a kid. He found his way back, though.
