Description Another sculpture made of recycled scrap. The rust colored steel plates are drops from the laser cutter and the "gazing ball" was from trash from a local nursery that went out of business.

Thank you.
And I checked your work...
You've got a killer style kiddo,you can't learn that,it's natural.
If I was in charge of your artistic life,I'd throw you in a life drawing class IMMEDIATELY.
Great fucking potential.
Consider Art School ?

Grades don't mean anything if you have talent.
A good art school should recognize and validate that.
Your anatomy needs just a smidgen of fine tuning, but you definitely have a natural talent (trust me on this).
And your compositions ,postures, fore shortening etc. though obviously inspired by comics are UNIQUE and ultimately feature well your budding talent. You will have to learn the discipline it takes to become prolific however,if you trully desire to make a successful life in the arts...
Anytime you need inspiration,I'm here. I wiil also kick your ass when it needs [link] ,it's the least I can do....

My pleasure friend,
One more thing which may be of service to you in the long run...If you derive a great deal of pleasure from the making of Art personally, completely separate and not dependent on the reactions of others, then try to remember this and make the act itself be your ultimate payback. It will help to remember this as there will be many distractions and complications brought to you from others that may threaten to derail or co-opt your skill and talent for OTHER PURPOSES than the joy of creation. I'm not suggesting you work for free at all,I merely suggest you try to remember why you went down this road in the first place...It will serve to keep you focused on the true reasons that feed your soul and help you to make the very best work you'r capable of.

i understand.
i hate seeing the art students at my school (i'm a hogh school student, but my school is part of a community college) who look like total zombies, working away at something they clearly have forgotten about.

And I would not have that be your fate...
Despite your young years, there is an "energy" evident in your work that is singular, natural, and betrays(I think) a love of the medium.
These same words were used to describe me long ago. Often ,it takes one to know one.
I was exceedingly lucky to have been raised by 2 artists, so that my natural ability was not only "allowed" but fostered openly.
Through all of the cataclysmic events of a normal life, the making of Art has remained for me the singular most consistent element for growth, stability, nurturance and a host of other positive features. It has been so much more than a mere method of making a living.
If you entertain thoughts of it being your avocation, then of course your orientation towards it becomes quite important.

one question... whats an avocation?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ou8nrtist2 In reply to missingchildren [2007-02-13 05:17:22 +0000 UTC]

A very good word that,
It is something someone does in addition to their regular job, occupation, etc. In your case (and mine), their "calling"...
Sort of like being a "natural" at something you love, and when you're instructed in it ,it's as if you're REMEMBERING rather than learning anew. Vocation would be like a job that you train for. Avocation would be like an adventure you were MADE for.
Here's a bad example; Harry Potter's vocation might be that of a student, but his avocation is certainly one of a wizard...

I've driven through Amarillo a number of times, but seldom stop there for anything other than to graffiti the cars at Cadillac Ranch. Next time I pass through there I'll keep my eye out for your old man's piece.
