colored version of [link]not bad for my first attempt at Avatar fanart if I do say so myself XD
that blue blob next to him is a sleeping bag, and the one above his hands is water (trust me, would I lie to you? XD)
lots of costume errors, but I had no reference for when I sketched this and couldn't find many good pictures for the colors
Okay, um, the basic idea I was thinking about when I first doodled this was, like, "what if Sokka could waterbend, but kept it secret?"
And then I was all like, "Ooooh~! What if Princess Yue gave Sokka the ability to waterbend as a parting gift when she became the spirit of the moon!" Hence the moon in the background
XD yes, my thoughts are like that, very random, but it was very early in the morning/late at night at the time
time: little less than an hour maybe?

On wiki one of the avata creators metioned after the serius was done that Sokka did in fact have some water bending blood in him and had the potencial...Not that he ever figured it out. But it was there none the less.

I thought it was a spirit at first. o.0 I was like "WHOA! SPIRIT bending??? O.O" XD Well, Katara can Bloodbend, so you never know. XD

In a interview with Michael Dante DiMartino it was revealed that Sokka also had some waterbending potential, but never realized it. Found it on Avatar: The last Airbender Wiki page under the characters outline. Might be funny if he was favored by the moon so his Waterbending could be strengthened? just a thought.

(bemused) Sokka is too clumsy, endearingly so, for it to have been kept a secret for long; but the concept *did* draw my attention. I love bending but sometimes I love the fact that nonbenders can be just as competent in battle as benders. Mai, Ty Lee, Sokka, Suki, and the last vestiges of the Freedom Fighters for example. Don't get me wrong, Sokka is very intelligent; but he really wouldn't be able to keep it a secret unless Yue gave him the mastery as well as the gift and frankly he would have used it to his advantage in any of the battles that came after. Sometimes benders unconsciously use their gifts as well, like when Katara split open that iceberg in, "The Boy in the Iceberg," because she was upset.
