Description God this took forever and I'm STILL unhappy with it >.< I need to find a way to make my art more defined instead of brush strokes everywhere.

Anyway, this is for the "Cursed Pokeball" theme over at I was thinking the story for this piece was along the lines of the Dragonite agreeing to be captured, but one day would be released and could have his trainer join him as a friend. Gotta be careful with those "Win now. Pay later" situations, lol.

MAJORNOTE!!!!: this is intended to be very VERY dark, so if you have your brightness boosted up to max on your monitor decrease it! your not supposed to see his elbow, and barely his new belly scutes.

DECREASE IT! Do it, do it NOUGH!!!!

The brush strokes look really nice certainly worth the time and effort put in. Did you draw out a basis image before doing it on the comp?

thank you! i think I'm going to continue my brush style while experimenting with some cartoon styles on the side for possible future animations.

Well, i did sketch out several compositions with the lighthouse subject before i decided on this one. Once i decide on a final sketch i keep it on a separate layer i call. "master sketch" and paint on another layer the solid colors. then i have another layer set for shadows and another for minor details like grass and differential skin pigments/textures.

I also have sketched the general design of dragonite before. little quick thumbnail sized sketches may seem simple, but they really help prepare you later on when you really tackle the concept!

Interesting way to do things I would probably keep the shadows on the same layer though cause you can use the dodge and burn tool to darken or lighten the area you want and I agree with the sketching before moving to the main drawing.

Cool name by the way ^.=.^

Yeah, using a lot of shadow layers can get confusing @.=.@ but it helps when your dealing with different shadow intensities and areas.

And thanks! I try to think of eye catching names, it helps set the scene.
