Similar to the classic the snow man where snowmen come to life at Christmas, all the dead spirits rise to celebrate Christmas at a special place, and to visit their loved ones, and I guess that they are allowed to do his as if they were alive, since they seem to be able to touch and interact with the living world, whilst not allowed to be seen by them... Beyond that no idea what or why, just a message that Christmas is important to all maybe.

I don't think it sounds silly. You had a close relationship with them. I get how you feel. I had a boxer once. His name was Buster, he was white with little brow spot and a stub tail, one eye was brown the other was blue. He was my first freind ever. I lost him 8-9 years ago during kindergarden. I still miss him.
