Everything seems to be going well, but Yokai are a lot like the Fae. They can be tricky and vengeful to those that have wronged them.

Yeah... it is like they were expecting him to be horrible immediately. People are not like that in real life, why would Yokai?
He is intimidating because we see reactions and are left to wonder. There is a thing called escalation, after all (the calm, as you mention).

Same here, though there is definitely some bad blood between him & his relatives, AND he did kill a few people on his way to town. Granted, we don't know the context of WHY they were attacking him, like if they were clueless bandits who mistook him for easy prey or were assassins out to specifically kill him, or if he actually instigated the whole thing, but he's obviously not someone to be taken lightly regardless of what his alignment maybe.

I know right? This guy OOZES intimidation despite looking like a frail old man who needs a walking stick, & yet absolutely EVERYONE in the room acts as if he could slaughter the entire town if he felt like it, because he probably CAN lol. I'm interested to see if he has any redeeming qualities at all or if he's just evil incarnate, he's definitely bad news but I feel like if he was Frieza level evil he wouldn't even be attempting to be civil towards anyone gathered here, like maybe he WANTS to get along with his family but is very set in his ways & expects them to follow suit but they won't/can't so they don't know how to deal with each other...And of course there is the MASSIVE power gap between them and him so its not like they're on a level playing field like it or not.
