Brief Story Summary + Explanation For Each Picture

Panel One
Teacake (Wysp) and Little Wonders (Skimmer) decide to meet up in order to make a recipe that they enjoyed as kids for Brewbash. Unfortunately Oakheart's (Terran) parents are out of town for the day and don't trust her to not go hanging around those suspicious Spinners so they unexpectedly land her on Teacake, a former minder of hers. Wonders is less than happy about this arrangement, but even she gets giggles at the kid's antics.

Tea is reading out the necessary ingredients from a torn-up leaf, and Wonders is checking to make sure they have anything she says while at the same time pushing Oak away from reaching the sugar.

Notes:
- Teacake takes care of a lot of kids so she has a lot of kiddy gifts around her house! Pictured are a small origami heart folded from a reddish leaf, a shell (tiny tiny shell), and a vaguely star-shaped rock painted with a heart and some yellow dots.
- The ingredients on the leaves are almonds and sugar, and the liquid in the pot (made and painted by another, slightly older one of Tea's charges) is almond milk, as a substitute to regular milk, which I don't see them having.
- The blanket in the background is where Tea likes to read sometimes. Might change its colour. Ew.
- You can hardly see it and I forgot it in the other two house panels but behind Wonders' head is a leaf hanging from the wall. An idea I had was that Grottolings like to give loved or otherwise valued ones poems written on leaves, with different kinds of leaves symbolising different things. Poems can be sonnets, limericks, anything the mind can come up with (obviously fitting the mood). Children like to practise writing their leaf poems on trusted adults, friends, and siblings.

Panel Two
It turns out that all of Teacake's blueberries have gone missing - Orchid 'borrowed' them for some unknown reason and hasn't returned them. Blueberries were a key part of the recipe and both of the sisters are pretty blown by it. Oak has other plans; she grabs a fresh leaf and a stick of charcoal, and starts scribbling down any possible substitutes that she can think of. Wonders doesn't like this child who she barely knows altering her family's beloved recipe so she's a bit skeptical.

Notes:
- Here I pictured Oak holding the stick in the sort of crook of her hoof - I tried this several times and it fell off as soon as it touched anything, but we're just going to roll with it for now. Better than charcoal tongue.

Panel Three
Teacake gives Oak's list of substitutes a lookover before giving her the go-ahead with it. Wonders is dragged along with her to go and pick some of the higher-up berries. They end up starting a conversation or something and both have fun C:

Notes:
- The two types of berry pictured here are raspberries and cloudberries.
- Teacake's home is situated at the bottom of a tree besides a lake. There are a lot of bugs, plants, and other stuff around but sometimes she'll go and brutally murder a very small fish just for a treat.
- I drew the water using a picture I took a couple weeks ago as a reference and I'm happy with the result!

Panel Four
Oak ponders some of the recipes that they tried. None of them clicked with her. She's wondering what they should do next and whether or not they have the time for it.

Notes:
- From left to right the recipes include: a chopped up strawberry, a chopped up raspberry, and a chopped up tomato. Oak has no idea where that last one came from but she hated it. Ech.
- this was actually the last panel I did but it was by far the easiest

Panel Five
After a few more tries they finally have a recipe that all of them like. Unfortunately, as Wonders notes, they're running out of time to get it to the bake-off judges and so a mad rush begins. After Tea packs away the leftover ingredients and Wonders and Oak wrap up the bake in leaves they set off, racing across the landscape. Oak is positive about this whole thing.

Notes:
- lighting for Teacake at night is fun to play with
- The leaf pouch thing is a pretty basic structure made from slotting leaves through holes in other leaves in a simple but stable pattern. It's easy to pull apart though, which is why most prefer woven pouches and bags.

Panel Six
The gang just about get there in time, and while Wonders and Tea go off to mingle with friends Oak deposits the cake off at the table, where she bumps into Honeybreeze. Honey is quite a bit older than Oak but Oak knows basically everyone so they strike up a conversation. Honey baked her pie with Cola, who you can see chatting with Wonders just behind them.

- There are....last time I counted about 18 Grottolings in this? You should probably recount them though.
- Desserts on the table include:
A sort of spongey citrus cake.
A bread-and-butter-pudding type thing.

Some muffins on a birch stand. I like the birch stand.
- The 'Brewbash' banner was painted by some schoolkids. A talented artist in their class probably did the berry and the leaf.
