Description THE MARE WITHOUT FEAR

This is some pretty old art, I actually came up with the idea LAST YEAR for halloween and it's been sitting finished in my files for probably at least half a year. I still like it enough to post.

This is Moonlight Aria! One of my favourite nextgens, I like to think she's a huge comic book fan despite being blind.

Her big brother Record Riff probably reads them to her at first when he runs out of other books to read to her, she's a huge fan of stories in general but she especially loves superhero stories.
When Record Riff sees how much she loves the comic stories he goes out to buy more of them. Riff comes back home with a few different comics, but most importantly a copy of MAREDEVIL: THE MARE WITHOUT FEAR. The story takes place in the same universe as the popular Power Ponies franchise but the tone of the comic is considerably more serious, considering the moral issues around superheroes. Riff himself was never a huge fan of the comics and wasn't sure if Moonlight would like them, but the main hero was blind like her so he figured he'd give it a shot. Moonlight loved it: not only that the hero was someone she could see herself as but also that the stories gave her something she could really think about...the Power Ponies really did have a lot of unchecked power and they did seem to only protect CERTAIN parts of Maretropolis!
Record Riff doesn't really get it and he almost feels bad, like he's destroying the innocence of his 8 year old sister and ruining the Power Ponies for her. On the other hoof, Moonlight was definitely not going to let him stop reading the stories. He confides in his mother Octavia about this and the two try to come up with a solution. Octavia is friends with a powerful but reclusive unicorn who lives on the outskirts of town. She knows that unicorn basically does everything with magic if she can, so if anyone would know of some sort of book reading spell it would be her.

The drawing is based on one of my favourite Daredevil covers (mark waid's daredevil comics have some of the nicest art of any superhero comic i've come across), and the cityscape in the background was traced over a screenshot from the show
