Ooh, that's convenient! We only have about two cons within an hour of where I live, annually. We've got Otakon and Katsucon. (although, I haven't been to Katsucon) I think we have other, smaller conventions, but I'm not sure I'd have the time/funds to go to them.

The expenses certainly do add up quickly. There's the cost of registration, cosplays, food, hotel/transportation (I usually just crash at a friend's house, though), and of course, anything that you actually want to purchase in the artist alley, etc.

Yeah, definitely. I get some discounts because I know the right people but its not always enough, that's why I usually go to the ones that are reasonable and have a good cred. I make all my cosplays, because buying them results in like triple the price compared to if you made your own.

I always try to separate food money from other-stuff money before anything else. Last year I ended up a bit short on food money at Otakon, because I didn't separate it. I had a very unhappy tummy, that weekend. I don't cosplay very often, but when I do, I try to make as much of it as I possibly can. Buying everything online is super-'spensive.

Psha, I bring like four protein bars or eat a huge breakfast before I set off, so I don't have to buy food there. Yeah, the point is to make the best...I've only ordered a wig online...That's it...It wasn't really expensive but it was the shipping that killed me. OAO Everything else I make by hand, the jackets, the hats, and my jewelry I wear...

I need to start doing the whole big breakfast thing. The only problem is when it's hot, and I feel sick in the heat after eating so much. :c Making cosplay things is a lot of fun. Sewing machine = best friend.
