Description The arrow punctured her thick jacket only to meet the steel which lay within. Another arrow merely glanced off the her rounded hip. The third slid easily into her skin ripping through veins. She grunted in pain and only slowed her step for a moment before resuming her swift retreat. That moment was all that was needed for the pursuers to renew the attack. The deadly projectiles came in the dozens, raining death upon her like hungry lions pouncing upon a wounded beast. She cried out as several made their mark deep within her body.

The claws which adorned her hands seemed pitiful weapons against the blood-starved rain. In a final decisive movement she leapt off the ground to clamber up a tree and through the thick branches. There was a second of respite before the arrows relocated her position. They followed her and dropped from the sky but they flying pattern was too wild for them to make their mark. Her sigh of relief was stifled when she heard voices below her. She crept silently and swiftly along the branches and made careful note not to disturb any animals that may reveal her. As a safety precaution she gutted each woodland creature as she passed by it. Her face screwed into a look of disgust as she sheathed her gore-ladened dagger. Later on she would have to find a new one.

She slowed after several minutes of her crouch-movement. Her ears perked for the sound of voices but found nothing save for the branches rustling and the occasional squirrel chirping. Seeing this as the perfect chance to rest, she laid back but stiffened from the immense pain. With due caution she listened once more for the hunters before removing her softly-hued jacket. She laid is against the tree, frowning at the numerous small pierces and the rings of blood which dotted the coat. She turned her attention to her own wounds. She ran her fingers over the larger holes in her shirt. She was met by soft bloody flesh in three places. She pulled up her shirt to inspect further. To her amazement, the injuries were minor and would heal within several days.

She smiled at this new revelation and donned her jacket once more before continuing on her trek. Although she believed herself to be safe in such thickness within the forest she preferred to err on caution’s side and stay to the thick branches which hid her properly and allowed for a larger hearing range. Although the path was not known to her she knew that she was heading north-west. After a short time of walking she recognized the sounds of a river splashing. She hurried quicker and leaped off the tree into a clearing that released nostalgic memories from her mind.

Several feet ahead of her a river cut through the landscape, splashing noisily with white foam curling at the water slapping onto the bank. Further down it disappeared down a rock jaw that released it into a gut-wrenching several meter waterfall. The river ended in a placid, warm pond that had many minerals dissolved into its depths. The trees around the grove were large and healthy and stood as staunch protectors for the wholesome haven.

At the moment, the girl only saw this beautiful display of nature as a place to dress her wounds. She climbed down the wall to a platform standing beside the small pond. She pulled off the clothing on her torso before taking out bandages and a cloth which had lay hidden within her pockets. She wetted the cloth in the warm pond and wiped down the wounds. The blood streaked off her glistening body leaving only dirty red-brown holes. She dried her arms and applied the dry bandages, wrapping them firmly but not tight enough to cause discomfort. She worked methodically with heavy concentration, as she did with most tasks. After finishing, she inspected her handiwork carefully. She smiled in approval and drew herself once more to her feet, pulling her shirt back in place but leaving the jacket hanging off her shoulders.

The sun was dropping at an alarming rate towards the sky line. Even now the deep blue dome above her was edged with purples and colourful bright hues that outlined the sun. She saw the necessity of leaving this tranquil sanctuary quickly. While peaceful during the day, local landmarks like this pond were thrown into chaos during the nighttime. Wild beasts and creatures unspeakable drew from Godforsaken land to haunt the dark waters. She shuddered from the past incidents which had occurred in her meager life span. Although few, the horrifying images were still burned into her nightmares.

She climbed once more up atop the rock wall. She did so with ease from her physique which she trained hard to develop. Even her arm muscles visibly rippled as she  grasped a rock to heave herself upwards. She took no note of this ordinary occurrence and pranced across the stones of the river. Though slippery and difficult to see from the growing darkness her measured footsteps held easily to the desired footwork. In moments she was deep into the thick, blind since the sun’s angle and the thick bush prevented any light from entering the forest. She kept her hands at a distance and stumbled along the dirt path which lay ahead.

The hours passed by slowly and yet she continued on her trek. The sun had long since disappeared and her journey kept her in total darkness. Even the hands in front of her face were beyond her vision. The night sounds of animals and other unknown sources only contributed to wariness brought upon her heightened sense of hearing. She kept her wits about her still and managed to keep her feet on the path.

Suddenly beside her was the sound of bushes cracking and a loud thump as something fell out of the tree. She shrieked and ran uncontrollably down the path in unbridled fear. She had lost all sense and was simply stumbling and groping her way through the darkness as fast as her feet could allow without slamming her head-first into a tree.

After several minutes of the reckless running she stopped the reckless running. She leaned against a large tree and leaned over, attempting to slow her heartbeat and save her shallow breaths. She laid down and stared into the deep blackness. It felt less oppressive now; even comforting. Her eyelids and body became heavy underneath the weight of fatigue. The day’s events swirled in her mind as she stood on the brink of soothing emptiness. Her thoughts laid upon the hunters which had came in such a fervour to kill her. She dwelled upon it before it was stretched to far from her grasp. Her thoughts swirled more quickly like a pool with the drain removed. Sleep soon took its hold on her body and lifted her into slumber. Her body slumped against the tree and she was soon snoring contently.

What can I say...? It shows as much potential as any picture on a D&D book... and then again, it could also prove to be just nothing... Way too... "undefined" to actually yield an opinion.

Yeah. The prologue was just more of an introduction to my writing style and the general time period. Hopefully you'll enjoy the First Chapter more.
