Description Byron Bay in the early morning before the madness begins.
Such a wonderful place.
This is where I work.
The great circuses of the world have nothing on this place.
I have seen this town change over the past 30 years from a surfer/alternate kind of place to..........
Utter madness!
Billboards and hawkers and thieves and violence and heaps of rubbish to pick up.
The world is catching up with me.
Like hell!
That's why I live in the hills!

Somehow I can envision you up in the hills looking down on all that madness; being able to keep yourself separate enough to survive with some insanity intack!

No need too.
I try to avoid the place to be honest.
Cept for early mornings.
When no one is around.
We get about 3 million enviro'-visitors here a year and the little town bursts at the seams sometimes.
And they can be such slobs with the environment, that it irritates me no end.

There are other places here, that are much nicer than Byron Bay though.

By "back yard", I mean you probably have some amazing places you can get to in just a few hours. A few hours gets me... to... more desert. Yuck.

I hate it when tourists mess things up. This area has some of the best trout fishing in the western U.S., and these fishermen always leave their lines, hooks, old bait, and beer cans everywhere. What's wrong with people?

Yeah! I know what you mean about deserts!
They are a great place to visit, but you gotta be very special to live there.
Good old Stralia is about 90% desert or something?
Most of us cling to the tiny little coastal fringes to get away from the dryness of the inland.
It's way too hot and dry out there for old mortals like me.

The deserts have a special magic though!!
Such a harsh environment brings out the best and worst in critters.
I went through Arizona once in about 1975 and was blown out by the way coolness of the deserts there.

Life is good!
That's the main thing.

Yeah, isn't there some mining town in Australia that's pretty much underground because it gets too hot?

That's insanity!

ozplasmic In reply to LimitedSpectrum [2008-11-09 02:56:21 +0000 UTC]

Most of the Opal mining towns (like ...Lightning Ridge and White Cliffs) in Stralia are underground, there is no other choice for them.
Underground is cool!

I wanna live underground!

But not where it gets like 5 milling degrees (that's Fahrenheit)

I agree man!
I am a fisher person.
And I just explode when I see fishing line and old bait bags and beer bottles everywhere.
It seems that every second Pelican or Gull has a piece of discarded fishing line strangling one of there legs slowly off or caught in their throats .
Or another dead Turtle washed up on the beach with a plastic bag lodged in it's guts!!
It makes me sick to be honest.
The wanton slothfulness of some modern folks just blows me out sometimes!
They even have to drive their cars "into" the playgrounds with their kids.
So they don't have to walk 10 meters from the curb to the playground????

Sheeezenhysen!!!!!!!

The good thing is that......
They are only a small percentage of folks that do that crap.

Anyway! When I'm around, and I see shit like that happening!
I can't seem to help myself!
I dive in and educate them rule quick!
You have to sometimes.

Great shot Chris, is it named after the poet by any chance? Do you have Kipling cove or a Shelley sea

Yo! it was named after good old Lord Byron.
There is a Shelly drive in Byron and a Kipling street too..
