I am saying this, because one of the most dangerous assumptions we can make is to assume that we are good.
See good people don't need to change, because they are already good so if someone else wants a good person to change what they are doing, than that person must be evil.
That is simply logical.
But if they are not truly good, and only think they are, than they can end up doing some truly horrible stuff, all while thinking they were good. Hitler for instance, never believed himself to be evil.
If thou want to be a good person, and that is something that I do not doubt, than thou hast to be virtues.
There are many virtues, but chief among them is humility.
Humility is not to think less of oneself, but to think of oneself less. It is to accept ones own fallibility. It is the opposite of pride and it is quite literally impossible to master.
Also as a sidenote, niceness is not a virtue. Kindness is a virtue but being nice is not.
To be nice is to be inoffensive, about scatting over problems rather than confronting them.
A nice person will react to a college who have marital problems with small talk and to tell them small lies like "everything will be okay", while a kind person will actually try to help. She would lend a sofa and would rather tell an unconformable and painful truth, than a smoothing lie. Because the only way things ever get better is to confront the fact.
Nice people lie all the time. They think they do it in order to make other people feel better, but their real motivation is so they than don't have to deal with them.

And the biggest problem for the world today, is the false virtues, who are really sins, like niceness and tolerance.
