i've had these guys in my mind for sO LONG,, lol
they play an important role in ankoku's story as they're the main reasons why she grew up to be the way she is so i couldn't wait to introduce them lol

Ankoku's parents during highschool; they're currently around the same age as Aizawa and Present Mic. They both attended UA which is the main reason why Ankoku decided to attend Shiketsu instead; she didn't want to be associated with them in any way.

Kouyou dropped out of school upon finding out she was pregnant with Ankoku. Due to Higure not wanting anything to do with her or the baby (since he didn't want a kid in the slightest and wanted to focus on his dream instead), she raised Ankoku on her own, so she could never really graduate.

Higure, on the other hand, graduated and worked as a hero under the name "Oblivion", and rapidly grew in popularity despite his lack of warmth and charisma. His aloof, quiet persona was perceived as "cool and mysterious" by the younger people, whereas the older generations appreciated his technique and high success rate when it came to fighting villains. His hero carreer ended abruptly years later, after an incident in which he found himself forced to overuse his quirk and push his body's limits to the extreme in order to save people in danger. This left him permanently damaged and almost unable to use his quirk.

Ankoku saw the news about his sudden demise when she was in middle school. She was aware of who her father was despite never meeting him in person; her knowledge about him was limited to short videos, internet forums and the occassional times she's seen him on tv doing interviews.

"Utsuro" (虚ろ) means cavity, empty space, whereas Higure (日暮) means dusk. His full name roughly translates to hollow dusk and it alludes to his quirk being practically an endless void, much like the sky.

Ankoku and her mother are very different to the point of being considered opposites. This contrast between them is even present in her names: Ankoku (闇黒) means "darkness", whereas Kouyou (晃曜) means "dazzling brightness."

"Mayoi" is a combination of "Ma" (間, "gap", "space", "pause") and Yoi" (宵 "early night"), but it's also an homophone for 迷い ("mayoi") which means "astray" or "to lose one's way."

Ankoku hasn't mastered her portal quirk yet and has trouble controlling it, especially when her feelings get the best of her. (For example, if deep inside she doesn't want to leave, she might get stuck halfway in the portal, or might open her destination portal in the same room, finding herself in a loop. She also has trouble to portal to locations she's not familiar with, often ending up in random places if she attempts to. Her mother, Kouyou, had the same exact issue with her teleportation quirk back when she was young.

Due to "Mayoi" being an homophone for being lost, it makes it a rather unlucky family name with negative connotations, which is why Ankoku hates being referred to by it. She plans to take her spouse's family name when she gets married.
