This is pond's lil entry to PE Summer Contest! [5 DAYS LEFT] featuring a new character designed especially (who will take the name Hygeia, after the figure she represents in this image of Hygeia by Klimt:

I picked this image of Klimt's particulrly because unlike most of his other work, which shows figures either unengaged with the viewer, like they're being observed, or casually communicating with the viewer (like in this piece of Judith: silverandexact.files.wordpress… which I very nearly picked), this piece of Hygeia seems to me very formal, very confronting, and it feels like you, the viewer, rather than observing are the observed. Although she might not be making direct eye contact, I still feel as though she can see my every move as well as whatever practice it is she's carrying out, and this is something I tried to emulate in my piece. As well as that, I tried to represent klimt's painting style with a revised shading method, using shorter strokes to add texture to the piece (this can be most easily seen around the neck).
