Description For an upcoming article in Nod magazine - a North America inspired "sandbox" for D&D/fantasy gaming. Wild elves tackle a couple of interloper humans. I was pretty happy about getting to work on this, because it's about the closest I can imagine getting to illustrate James Fenimore Cooper novels any time soon. Initially I'd wanted to give one or both of the elves a gustoweh cap, but those don't "read" all that well - so both of them got sort of a basic roach head-dress.

Ah, tricorn hats. A fashion statement that doesn't get nearly the respect it deserves....

I really like your 18th-century fantasy art. It's such an underused period for RPGs!

Yeah, I know! Whenever I envision Ravenloft stuff, it usually winds up having an 18th century slant, I think thanks to Brotherhood of the Wolf and Amadeus.

Oh yeah! Say, do you follow Magic the Gathering? They had a horror-themed set with some 18th-century visuals some time ago, called "Innistrad".

I've seen some of that! But I don't collect/compete in MtG - the entry cost just seems a bit steep, sadly, since the few times I've played it was a fun game.

I'm curious : why the french title ? (btw, in french, the plural is "elfes")
I like this drawing, with the elves showing their back to us. Beautiful back.

Corrected the spelling, thanks! I think I'd been assuming because the setting was New France, and also this seemed like the sort of setting you'd see in a French comic or RPG rather than an English language one.

Thanks for your answer ! I collect french comics and I can tell you that this picture could totally belong to one of them.

Thanks for correcting my French and being okay with how I associate one of the world's prettiest languages with comic books and wargames!
