Description A Salvation Army Santa near Rockefeller center. This particular Santa was making balloon animals just before this shot. I didn't realize until I had these processed that there were two other people wearing Santa hats when I took this photo from the hip. This was taken with a Holga camera just prior to Christmas.

Holgas are a toy camera that has gained a following due to the look of the image produced. No two are the same, and they're basically all pieces of sh*t.

I recommend googling "Holga camera" to see more info, as well as image samples.

Wow! This was at the hip!? I can always appreciate flim photography, it's hard but its clarity cant be beat.

This was shot from the hip! I saw the Santa ahead of time, and set my Holga's focus to be for a group shot (I think they say that's 6-9 feet) and then as I walked by I held it at my right hip and fired the shutter. I didn't want the Santa to know I was taking his photo and then pose, which would have changed the shot, probably for the worse.

Maybe David Rockefeller is Santa Claus… after all, he's a white guy who's got tons of slaves working for him all year long and he gets all the glory in the end.

I'm not sure if David Rockefeller gives away all the stuff he makes through the year, though. Interesting thought, however.

This is shot on film; the only part that's digital was scanning it from the film. The film marks that you see (from Ilford's HP5 film) are real, not added in post. It's from one of my two Holga cameras, which are great for this type of shot.

The Holga cameras are fun to shoot with for this very reason. It's really a Holga, too, shot with film... no digital effects here.
