I'm learning verb conjugation in Japanese is a little harder than they first explained.

This is the kicker. There are nine types of verb conjugations, split into formal and informal and those get split into negative and positive. 36 different conjugations and for God knows what reason they've thrown in extra special circumstances for certain words.
