"Every few months we were sent to retrieve the star blood from the broken chapel; a mystical place of seemingly alien origins buried in the forest. Some say it is what brought us here, that it was once a vessel commandeered by our distant ancestors. Somehow they think it belongs to us too.

No, it owns us just as much as the rest of this planet. We will trek to it and take the burning essence from its heart, and its light will keep us safe. But the moment it has no more star blood for us is the last time we will see light, and the darkness of this planet will snuff us out."

Just my idea for a story about a colony of people marooned on a rogue planet with no sun. In order to protect themselves from the ruthless inhabitants of the planet they need light. The only thing they have is the fuel of their crashed ship, and so every century that passes burns away their only means of escape. However, after being there so long they had already forgotten who they are and where they belong.
