Description

Ooh death

 Ooh  death

Won't you spare me over ‘til another year?

Well what is this that I cant see,

With ice cold hands taking hold of me.

When God is gone and the Devil takes hold,

who'll have mercy on my soul?

O Death, O Death, consider my age,

Please don't take me at this stage.

O death,

Won't you spare me over 'til another year?

--

Griffin had been waiting, when the Vindicator group had finally dipped down the stairs that led to the entrance. The hallways were dimmer than usual, oil lamps turned down to preserve energy while people slumbered. It was quiet, only a handful of guards making their way around, soldiers to shaky to sleep and the few healers they had tending to any who needed it. Quiet greetings were shared as they passed by Griffin, the eager mare silently holding back her excitement.

Godric had not been on a mission in a long while now, the past three months since his return he had been bonding with his daughter, mourning the loss of her mother together and trying to be the father he had always envisioned himself as. He wasn’t the best at it, and there were times that he was too worn, to far gone and lashed out at his daughter (only with words, never with anything else) Anais had comforted Griffin then, had scolded Godric and all three had come together, broken and bruised but all each other needed.

When Griffin had learned that Godric would be going off again, into the fold of Valore and its crested streets Griffin of course had been worried. Her father had only just escaped that place, what if he was to be caught again. Surely this time the city would break him, would kill him. He had reassured his daughter and the day that he was to leave, had kissed the top of her head and shared a deep embrace and a few heartful words. He would come back for his daughter, he always would.

And come back he did, Leaning heavily against one of the other party members, bandages blooded and clinging to his side. He didn't even carry Enasalin, the greatsword hanging from the side of the same soldier supporting him. Griffin had panicked, her heart dropping at the sight of her drained father. She hesitated and when she motioned to get up and move towards him he was suddenly being pulled away by another soldier and a healer. His eyes held onto Griffin’s gaze before he was forced to turn his head away, a pained expression painting his features.

---

It was an hour later that she finally got to see him. It was strange, to see the person you thought stronger than a mountain weak and laying in the semi-dark. His breathing was ragged and wet as if he was drowning without water. For a moment Griffin wanted to turn away; to leave and ignore how little her father looked. “Griffin,” His voice was low, gruff as always and Griffin found herself looking at him again “Come lay with me.”

Stepping forward, Griffin carefully folded in her legs beside him, eyebrows drawn to her forehead in worry. Godric smiled softly, his eyes half-lidded and his teke reaching out to curl through her short locks “You look so much like your mother, you know that?” Griffin couldn’t help but smile slightly, biting her lip “You tell me that every day” her voice felt too quiet, she was used to yelling and laughing, not this quiet sombre tone.

Godric chuckled and the sound soon turned into a harsh cough, grating against her flat ears. Clearing his throat, Godric shook his head and rested it against the pillow. A soft sigh escaped his lips.

Unbeknownst to her, tears were slowly leaking down her cheeks as she rested her head near her fathers “Tell me a story?” she asked, her voice so impossibly quiet

“Anything for you, Feather,” clearing his throat, Godric began to tell a story of a lone knight in the cold wilderness. Griffin listened, doing her best to not fall asleep and listen to her father’s quiet words.

---

The morning brought a cool chill in the bunker, drafts of wind sweeping through all the little cracks in their foundation. Griffin had shivered and pressed herself against her father's body only to find the warmth gone from his hide. Lifting her head, fresh tears had begun to spill as she looked over the peaceful form of Godric. His head had been right beside her, his eyes closed and his pose peaceful though no life coursed through his veins. Griffin had pressed her face against his, holding in her broken sobs.

---

An infection, fluid in his lungs.

That’s what the healers had told her. Nothing to be done, only Godric’s body would be able to fight it, but he hadn’t.

Warmth crept up along her face and legs as Griffin watched the pyre burn, eyes drawn to the flakes that flickered into the night sky like gold. Away from the others who gathered to pay their respects to the soldier, Griffin let her tears slowly fade along her chin. She held Enasalin tightly to her body, trying her best to find her voice.

“In war, victory. In peace, vigilance. In Death, sacrifice.” She remembered his motto, of honour and glory in life and war. Griffin closed her eyes and held fast to her father's sword.

“Digend, Please watch over him .”

--

O, I am death, and none can tell,
If I open the door to heaven or hell.

No wealth, No land, No silver nor gold,
Nothing satisfies me but your soul.

O Death, I come to take the soul,
Leave the body and leave it cold.

O death, O death

Won't you spare me over 'til another year?

Well here we are folks.

Godric was my first SA character following CW and honestly its been such a journey to see what my boy has gone through and how he's changed.

But out with the old and in with the new, Griffin is going to becoming a full character!! she's sad and angry and needs to cry it out honestly....

Anywho, the lyrics here are from the song O death, ther version specfically in Until Dawn (its so good go listen)

I think this counts towards AP? if not tell me

12  AP to MOYRA (, 1 x shaded fullbody, full BG, 848 words )

GOd the mood in this piece is so good??? Can I give the child a hug??? I think they need it

Also how dare you play on my love for the “child surrounded lovingly by the ghosts of their parents” trope???
