Chocolate Jupiter is best Jupiter. Is one thing to make a Rough and Tumble Sailor Scout, but Jupiter IS Rough and Tumble!

Shame Japan has about as much diversity as....um....oh wait, they got rid of that. Never mind Great job.

This is a great redesign! Sailor Jupiter is probably my favorite scout, and in this pic you really capture the sense of a girl who's been thrown out of a few schools for causing a ruckus... but perhaps there's a hint of an underappreciated baker and florist in there, too?

OMG. I can't love this design enough. The Boxing paraphernalia! She's not white! That Expression! The musculature! A SPORTS BRA!!!! I just... Perfection.

Also, reading through the comments here, I've concluded that you're awesome and I'll have to follow you in the future.

She was my second favorite, I identified just a tad more with Mercury, but I also felt that of the inner planets, Jupiter was the closest to me and my sisters on a day to day we fight, we play, we're a bit rough and a bit tomboy sense.

I SERIOUSLY AM IN LOVE WITH THIS DESIGN. There needs to be more racial diversity in cartoons these days and I might have loved the show even more if it were like this. X3 LOL POINTLESS RACIST COMMENTS, they're bound to appear whenever white isn't the default color but I'm hoping we'll see some more ethnicity changes in you're re-designs!

XD Can you tell I'm hoping the 2013 reboot of the show is gonna be grittier?

DarkKnightJRK In reply to paigehwarren [2012-08-08 06:54:22 +0000 UTC]

I had not heard that there was going to be a reboot. I mean, I vaguely remember watching an episode or two as a kid, but I don't remember any of the actual show, you know? But hey, if it looks cool and I can find a way to watch it, I'll give it a shot.

Why did you make her black?

Why do you have a symbol of bigotry as your icon?

RandomRedneck1990 In reply to paigehwarren [2012-08-08 04:30:24 +0000 UTC]

Because it's a flag of heritage, not bigotry. And it's cool looking. You got an issue with that? Too bad.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

paigehwarren In reply to RandomRedneck1990 [2012-08-08 04:35:46 +0000 UTC]

One would think that the 200+ years of oppression, abuse, hatred, and slaughter behind such a symbol overwhelms how "cool looking" it is. A heritage like that doesn't seem like something worth being proud of.

And to answer your question, I made her black because there was no reason not to.

I was going to compliment your pic, but now, I'm just gonna tell you to piss off. I'm Southern. It's part of our history. If you have an issue with that, take it up with your Yankee butt buddies, and leave me alone.

Don't act like a compliment is some priceless treasure that I've cheated myself out of by questioning your use of a symbol that most people feel idolizes one of the worst periods in American history.
I love hearing from people who appreciate my art but it's not worth ignoring my own moral compass to do so. It's a controversial symbol with a very disturbing meaning. If you can't handle someone questioning your use of it without resorting to insults, don't use it.

Can I just love you? I mean, I totally wasn't expecting that to be the first comment on this image (because let's be honest, the redesign is so friggin' badass that I was sure someone was gonna actually say that), but your response and the way you handled it were amazing. <3

excuse me but what does that flag mean? I'm not from the US, so I haven't seen or heard of it before, sorry to bother you I just don't know what it's called. >.>

paigehwarren In reply to Inamax [2012-09-18 03:05:52 +0000 UTC]

(I'll summarize since the American Civil War is a big topic)
It's the Confederate Flag, also known as the Rebel Flag. It's usually used by people in the South (really the bottom right corner of the US on the standard map, since America is bigger now than it was then) to show pride in their region and their heritage.
Thing is, this was the flag used by the region when they seceded from the Union in 1861 because the Union (the North of the USA) wanted to end slavery. The Confederates wanted to preserve their "right" to own people and treat them like chattel because their entire economy depended on their ability to do so. They seceded when the Union abolished slavery all together. A war broke out (which many Southerners still refer to as the "War of Northern Oppression") between the North and the South and when the North won, the Southern economy was destroyed (although methods of unofficial slavery, such as sharecropping, were still widely used) and the effects are still a problem today. Many Southerners are proud of their flag but don't consider that their symbol still means pro-slavery and black oppression in many ways, or they do know that and they are okay with it.
Either way, it's a symbol that, in part, represents one of the darkest chapters in American history and the idea that someone would actually celebrate a symbol so closely related to slavery is deeply disturbing.
