Elmwood Cemetery, Downtown Columbia, South Carolina, USAElmwood Cemetery is a historic city cemetery located in downtown, Columbia, South Carolina. It was established in 1854, and expanded in 1921. The older section is heavily wooded and has a section devoted to the Confederate dead. It is 168 acres. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Thanks so much, Dear M! As many times as I have been to this cemetery, which is less than a mile from my house, same place my Mom and Grandparents are buried, I never noticed this. They are buried towards the back, but the whole front of the cemetery is really old, beautiful and just about every headstone is different. You have to do a lot of walking around to find little gems like this. Glad you like it.

I have taken whole vacations just to go through old cemeteries and take
photos of the sculptures and hand crafted headstones from a whole different
era and time..
It is said that you can tell alot about a society by how it treats its dead, and
