BACKGROUND

Training Notes: This colt enjoys working, and loves to learn something new. However, if you show him something wrong, he's gonna pick it up that way. However it's easy to train him out of it, he just really likes to learn and please. Places a lot of trust in his rider or handler.

Personality: Ragtop is a people pleaser. He loves getting out and doing stuff, and he will try his hardest to please his rider or handler. He truely enjoys getting out and traveling. He doesn't mind being alone, but travels best with a companion. Not studdish at all, you can put him next to a mare and he'd rather just stand there and enjoy the company. Not overly spooky, he's really curious by nature and trusts his riders, as he's never been done wrong.

History: No one really understood why his palomino dam was on such a weird cycle, but when she finally took, everyone was excited. Out of the cross of her and WR This Cats Smart came a chestnut colt. He was immediately put into training, getting natural horsemanship methods mixed with the occassional liberty training, creating a trusting and smart horse. From a young age he looked for the right answers, and was a snap to train, and once his trainer put him on cows, they knew he was a shining star. Natalie caught wind of the unique colt in May 2013, and began trying to track him down. While at a cutting in Texas where his dam resided, she spotted the colt being worked in a round pen. She knew she had to have him to be apart of their herd, and offered the owner money and breedings, whatever it took. The owner refused at first, but a few days later called back, the owner's daughter had a freak accident, and they needed all the money they could come by, Natalie felt for the situation, and promised they could come stay at Painted Desert whenever they pleased to watch their precious colt, and told them that PD would do them proud, there was no dout in her mind. And so with that, towards the end of June, she set out to Texas, ready to pick up the chestnut colt.

EXTRA

Artist Note: Meet Ragtop. He's something special and hopefully, he lives up to what the bloodlines have presented for him. It takes powerful mares to create powerful foals, both his granddams are RL horses that have produced some of the nicest horses out there. His dam is made-up, but I'm considering adding her to my herd because I like her background...I spent a month or two finding the perfect mares and stallions to give me my favorite bloodlines, Smart Chic Olena, Shining Spark, The Smart Look (her foals have won over $1million and High Brow Cat. The stallions in this colt's pedigree are leaders in the cowhorse and reining industries...

Nah it really doesn't both me that much lol If I had the money and resources, I'd get a baby from Breeze out of a pleasure stud despite the fact I don't do pleasure and would literally just resell the foal Maybe a hunter stud too. She'd have a bunch of leggy, smooth babies lol I'd then get a dozen cow-cross and barrel babies after that We'd then proceed to take over the world with her appendix babies.

Ahh! Once his breeding slots are open, I'll have to slip one of my mares on there XD I seriously love this horse! He looks like a gelding I ride in real life. Chunky like I love them

painted-cowgirl In reply to MapleFilly [2013-07-05 05:11:29 +0000 UTC]

I think there might be a fight over who gets his first slots He's been quite the popular laddy when it comes to people wanting babies, and I expect the list to only grow as I enter him up (I've already got him registered for 4 events, and plan to enter every single one of them, and there are 4 more already on the list to do after those). Most my sorrels and chestnuts in real life have stars or huge blazes, I don't think I've had one yet with something like his And I like them chunky too, our friends breed cutting horses and I train barrel horses, both disciplines usually require a lot of power, which means muscles

I'll probably open 3-5 slots in 2014 for him, so keep an eye out around that time I won't be making any exceptions before then, for anyone, much to some friends dismay

I wanted to have a good few months to show him and get him known before I open him, and when he's open, he'll likely be first come, first served.

Ooo great Do you know the price you're going to ask? I don't have any points now so I need to be prepared! Also, I need more mares! XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

painted-cowgirl In reply to MapleFilly [2013-07-05 20:47:14 +0000 UTC]

I'll probably make slots open a variety of ways, the first slot might be sold to the person who gets him a certain amount of points, the 2nd in a free ticket raffle, and the 3rd I haven't decided. The 4th and 5th would probably be more raffles if I had them, but in general, I'd probably limit 1 spot per person to allow others better chances of getting a slot.

As for your mare issue, I have a offspring program coming up soon, and there will be some older fillies in that in which you could train and show until the slots are available, by that time they should be about 3 years old and old enough to breed, I will also be offering older mares in my program that would for sure be old enough to breed. Either that, or you can lease my mares to breed to him. I've got plenty of them I think I've had more people do that when breeding to my horses than anything else most my older mares have foals showing and winning.

Hmm those are some great ideas! I think I might go with leasing? Hmmm decisions, decisions! I have this weird "phobia" of breeding horses that aren't at the top of their career Like my stud, Miami Runner out of Gun Runner and Miami Hooligan is the best horse in my barn, but he doesn't have one foal yet. He's premium in the WD, though. They haven't accepted his ref yet. But he was in the WD before I took him out (I was going to do personal HARPG) and then put him back in, so of course the registration is a bit slow, and you know how it is. I really want to breed him to my mare "Satisfaction Guaranteed." I've only had 1 home bred foal in my barn since I started HARPG 2 years ago So i guess it's time!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

painted-cowgirl In reply to MapleFilly [2013-07-05 21:13:23 +0000 UTC]

lol, I've been on here 3 years, was in HARPG for about 2 years, and revoked my membership a year or so ago. I wasn't registering my horses with them anyways, it was just a way to keep my stable "on the map" so to speak, but now I've kinda built up my barn and people know my horses, so I don't worry about that.

I have to say that I was a breeding foal, still sorta em, but I've slowed down a LOT because I just had too many. I still have too many, so I'll probabaly try to do a dispersal sale at the end of my show.

MapleFilly In reply to painted-cowgirl [2013-07-05 21:19:00 +0000 UTC]

Ah, yea, that's the only reason I really stay in the group. I barely have any watchers It's hard when you don't get any comments on anything. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I do harpg for fun.

You'll get them, my key to being better known was my horses, I've worked my butt off showing them and producing horses that have been sold and shown by owners I trust and knew would get them ranked. The only stables with more than 2 Best of the Best (or higher ranked) horses, have at least one of those horses from our bloodlines. Blaine River Ranch has 2, HoF mare Tiffany Morgan, and BotB filly PD Driftin' Tramp, out of 2 of our horses, and Sunrise Ridge Ranch has 2 BotB mares, LCS She Don't Mess, out of one of our studs and her dam is the other BotB mare. My ranch is the only one with two HoF horses though, PD Hollywood Tramp and PD Handdown Hancock. Holly has a few foals that are of high ranking, and Spanky's foals are flying up the charts, I have no dout by the end of the year at least 2 of his foals will be BotB if not HoF. My horses were definitly the key to my "success".

Well, I have 10 entries in the Western Nationals now, god knows I will have no butt by the end of the summer! I plan on entering many more horses!

painted-cowgirl In reply to MapleFilly [2013-07-05 21:48:51 +0000 UTC]

I've got 15 entries for Nationals, lol, and might add another 5 more if I get time, I'm trying to show some of my old mares too, I've got at least 3 or so mares that I'd like to get to Elite by the end of the year. Most of them are pretty close as it is. And then I've got about 4 stallions that are all within the 80-90 point range that I need to use a little in order to close the gap XD

Good, lol I wanted him to be loved I wanna enter him so bad, so I'm probably gonna draw something up of him in the next day or two. And I'm gonna try to get him into QH World, so I'm gonna register him for the qualifiers. But I've also gotta go look at another world show to see what qualifiers it has so I don't have to send in 20 registration notes in order to get my horses qualified...

Thank you He's already stolen my heart, I think he's so simple yet extrodinarily handsome so whats not to love I'm glad he's got such a good response, I feel like I'm rather known for a ton of colors in my horses and herd, but he's as simple as it gets really, ee/aa. But a good chestnut is gorgeous...and he's rather delicious...

SunriseRidgeRanch In reply to painted-cowgirl [2013-07-01 01:02:19 +0000 UTC]

I know the feeling. Missy is my best known and she's such a flashy Paint, but most of my next horses are basic solid colors with very little white on them.

Girl you have a lot of horses with white You have a lot of pintos... I was talking about crazy color genes, like champagne, pearl, that sorta stuff. I'm like geno bomb crazy So for me to plop in a basic chestnut, not a common occurance XD

SunriseRidgeRanch In reply to painted-cowgirl [2013-07-01 01:24:06 +0000 UTC]

That is ture though if I remember right it seems like you have a few other horses who are fairly basic as far as color goes.

I won't argue with that one. XD. Complicated markings can be a pain.
