Description Before and After [link]

Thank You for looking

Still in search of just the right textures but ..
I've made some major changes to this piece, I had done the first background as the original painting was done and was so unhappy with it, to me the blue was too distracting. I also changed out some of the bead work that was laying and turned partial under. I like this much better now.

This is a gift for Ida `mizzdraconia

Third wife of King Henry VIII
A little tidbit I read somewhere: The song Greensleves was written by Henry in honor of his most beloved Jayne.

Beautiful work. I'd love to see you do all of the wives.

Your tidbit about Greensleeves is wrong however. Historians originally believed that Henry wrote the song for Anne Boleyn who would reject his advances during his attempt to court her. The rejection, they thought, may have been referenced within the lyrics "and cast me off discourteously."

However Henry did not pen the song; the song is more Elizabethan and based upon an Italian style of lyricism and composition that was around long after Henry's death.

Sorry, I studied 16th century music during college pretty intensely as an elective.

That song was written by Henry VII, but it was for Anne Boleyn. Also, Jane Seymour was known to be quite plain, but she was virtuous. Many believe that Henry chose her because she was such a contrast to Anne. I am not trying to be annoying or insulting in any way. I have just read so much on the subject a felt inclined to say something. Your work is absolutely beautiful, though, and so well done. You are a great artist!

Actually, there wasn't any proof of the "Greensleaves" have been wrote for Jane Seymour.

Indeed, it is most belief that it was composed for Anne Boleyn.

Yes, I understand that no one knows for sure .. I would suspect as well documented as Henry was, that IF he had written it, all would know for sure and for whom it had been written

smiles .. dolls were my first art form .. I loved painting them .. either in porcelain or on cloth .. I guess that's why most of my art here contains a "closer" up view of the human .. either full body or portrait, and not as much scenery ..
Thank you so much, Erik! You made my day!

ErikDShipley In reply to PaintedOnMySoul [2009-06-16 22:10:57 +0000 UTC]

You really need to start up the doll making again. I bet you could make some incredible ones. Knit some clothes make some beautiful jewelry and then sell them for thousands. Yup...i can see it.

Oh, I burned out on doll making. I used to make them and sell them, and geez the work and time one can spend on just one doll is amazing. Then I discovered digital art, and thought to give this a go .. I'm still working at the "go" part ! hahahaha

It's too bad they didn't have Jane Seymour wear that headdress in the Tudors tv show. It seemed like whenever she was on screen, her hair was spilling over her shoulders.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PaintedOnMySoul In reply to orastella [2009-06-16 21:56:35 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they portrayed her as wearing her hair down, which really wasn't the fashion of the time .. I would imagine that was done to spice the show up some .. just as in the TV show, Henry is QUITE handsome, but having seen portraits of him, IMHO he was anything but good looking.

Yeah, by that point he was rotund. I mean, his gout is a disease he had because of his weight. Ends up kind of strange when they keep the gout and cut the fat. The show isn't historically perfect, but I've been enjoying it.
