I wonder how that would compare to photoshop or flash functionality-wise? Those are the only programs I've done animation in, so they're all I have to go off of. I would like to get a good program for animation at some point, but I don't know what would be the best option.

Toon Boom is industry standard, I highly recommend it if you can get your hands on it.
