Macro is possible without actual macro lens.
Just flip over a Canon 18-55mm lens, adequate lighting and here it is! More at tumblr.com/xcw2mo91ht
Setup: Dandelions on a little woven basket, natural light from a window and pink backlight from my laptop screen.

The only reason I don't do that is cause I'm dead tired of always having to clean my sensor... plus Sony and Nikon lenses are on the smallest aperture by default mechanical spring shutter.
