Crimson Eclipse is the evil adopted sister of Princess Rainflower. When she was just a filly, she was a pink unicorn with a purple mane and tail with green eyes and she never had her Cutie Mark yet. Her original name was Moonlight Serenity. She was an orphan before she was eventually adopted by a unicorn couple and she became the adopted sister of Rainflower who would eventually be chosen by King Cosmos and Queen Galaxia to become an Alicorn Princess so that she can be the new ruler of the Enchanted Forest after Avalor the Wise had left the mortal world to join the Celestial Kingdom.

Moonlight Serenity grew bitter and jealous towards her sister when she became successful with her training before she began to hate Rainflower when she earned her wings and crown. Moonlight Serenity went in secret to study the forbidden arts of witchcraft and dark magic before she heard a demonic voice that says she will be chosen by Erebus the God of Tartarus to rule over the Abyss as his second-in-command and she would be known to all as Crimson Eclipse. Moonlight Serenity went straight to Tartarus where she met Erebus before she was transformed into a demonic Alicorn and she got her Cutie Mark which was a black sun surrounded by hellfire.

After her battle against Princess Rainflower, King Cosmos and Queen Galaxia stopped Crimson Eclipse who was no longer the jealous unicorn mare she once was before they banished her to spend the rest of eternity in the Abyss at Tartarus. Crimson Eclipse was the pony equivalent of a fallen angel that was cast out of heaven and into hell for all eternity. After thousands of years of being banished, Crimson Eclipse sent her demon assassins to destroy Princess Rainflower and her husband, Forest Grove, as well as their daughter, Butterfly Lily.
