I like to think of ghasts like the boos from Mario. the only difference is that boos don't spit fire balls at you. And ghasts don't disappear when you look at them instead they will most likely kill you.

When you go to the nether for the first time. I would suggest to NOT hit the zombie pigmen.
And also make a cobblestone shelter. (Ghast firebaalls can't destroy cobblestone)
