Description "And so it was that forgiveness was given and received, for the crimes of others."

Well, this took awhile. Illustration for the story I'm still writing, at this point mostly in my head.

Awesome lineart, must have taken forever to make all those details! I'd love to read the story too!

Thanks! It did take awhile, and I think I almost gave up on the 6th or 7th tree

This style seems to would work very good as actual illustrations in a storybook. It has something ancient to it with so much detail. I like the colors a lot and oh God, so many ornaments and wooden details. *_*

Thank you so much! I designed it so it would take a whole spread in a book if I one day actually get the whole story on paper. It needs some tweaking, but in general I'm happy with it.

You are very welcome!Β

So you mean, a whole spread over two pages?

This is a beautiful design it reminds me of wood block printing or old master stipple work. It's almost reminiscent of that which is a good thing it has charm to it. The way the floor is like a patterned rug is interesting and adds a pleasing aesthetic to this forest. The way the characters are also lit to make them the focus is beautiful you did well with the composition. The only thing I don't particularly like is how the man is sitting on the plane. It looks like he's either off balance or not quite right in perspective. Find your horizon line and draw a cube around him and I think you'll see if his legs are positioned correctly or not. Other then that perhaps try to simplify the faces a bit more so that it's not as dense since they are so small in the image. Or perhaps draw them closer. Either way great work dude!

Paivatar In reply to AmmoBot-HB [2015-01-17 00:28:33 +0000 UTC]

Yupp, you're right. His right leg is too high on the plane. Oh well... There's a narrative reason to why they're so far apart in the image, but I do agree with you on the simplification of their faces.Β

Thank you for the critique, and I am pleased that you like it Β

I really like the different use of textures throughout the piece. It gives each object its own plane in the drawing, which helps give a certain sense of depth. The vines also give a wonderful sense of movement to the piece. It moves the eyes along the whole illustration so that the viewer can focus on the intention of it.

It does look like there are minor anatomical issues, such as the gentleman's hands being rather large, but I think that it adds to the emotion of the piece, so I wouldn't count it as a major flaw. There is something a little off about her hand, but once again, it is such a minor flaw in a highly detailed, and wonderful piece.

Paivatar In reply to KLoganArt [2014-12-01 15:41:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the hands are too large. Like I said in another response to another comment I noticed it only after I had already drawn most of the trees and the vine, and damn it if I was going to do all that again just to fix his hands In other words, I got lazy and just left it. He may from now on be called the Man With the Mammoth HandsΒ Β

I'm glad you like it despite the somewhat odd hands

I don't blame you at all for not wanting to have to redo all of that, and like I said it kind of adds to the mood of the piece so in a way it was serendipitous.

Wow, this is great! It looks so professional, honestly. The linework is stunning and I'm amazed at how you did the patterns on the ground. How long did that take?

And I can tell by the characters' poses that this is indeed a scene about forgiveness. You can really see the pain in the man's scrunched up brows and his outstretched hand. I love the woman's dress and how her presence seems to be warm and comforting to the guy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Paivatar In reply to charcoalfeather [2014-11-14 02:40:15 +0000 UTC]

It took me about 10 hours or so, spread over 3 days - the patterns themselves took maybe 3 hours. The half circles in the foreground and the lines on the trees nearly drove me mad!

I'm happy I was able to capture his desperation and her comforting presence, without those the piece would be empty of meaning. I'm glad you like it, and thank you for your kind words
