I don't see why people make attempts to show that the pilot gets whacked as well, air combat is a sport! With sportsmanship! Lets not forget the pilots of WW1 who would often land to tend to an enemy they struck down. I miss those golden ages.
Also, lasers are too OP and makes it a fishbarrel-shoot. And when playing with human lives fishbarrel-shooting is just unfair.

So, so true. The days of "sportmanship" in the air are sadly over. Actually, I don't like "sportsmanship". "Chivalry" is a better word. Except in tanks, when it's tank you wanna kill everyone in there.

Why aerial chivalry is over: In the current wars going on in the Middle East, the terrorist groups we're fighting don't have an air force. And with current technology, pilots kill one another from miles away. The 2 will probably never even see the other's aircraft.Β
Why I like the term chivalry better: Sportsmanship is mainly used in just that: sports. Chivalry, however, was commonly used for honorable knights in the middle ages.
Why you want to kill the tank crew: Many weapons used on tanks penetrate armor and kill the crew. They had weapons like this even in WW2.

It could pierce light tanks and kill a crew member or shoot at soft points in the armor and jam the turret drive, damage the gun, etc. ALSO if your looking to capture an undamaged enemy tank, killing the crew and causing little damage to the tank itself will yield better research.Β
Β Β Tank under-armor is weak. Landmines where used to destroy tank treads and halt movement. But that won't stop the guns from screwing you over. Landmines are mostly used to kill the crew by penetrating the weak belly armor, the crew can't operate the tanks guns if they're dead.

Are you kidding me, have you seen what happens to planes when they are hit by bullets? The pilots may try to think they're just aiming at plane, but they know there are people inside.
Thinking that way just makes it easier to shoot.

You're making it seem like the aim of air combat is to kill the pilot. And duh there's people inside. Can't honestly believe Im going to explain this.
Planes are a threat because they carry big ass weapons. Militaries need these opposing weapons destroyed. Unless the country is going on a genocide, 'killing' the enemy is actually not the aim of warfare. If there's no equipment, there's no threat. Only reason people die in planes is because they're caught up in between the enemy and their own plane. Same with tanks. Same with infantry. Only dangerous cause they carry weapons.Β
Your argument appears to be that if these vehicles were drones, then theres no point shooting them. Cause there's no pilot to kill. Are you saying that? No! But you dont see that because you're being silly and irrational!
Example: A soldier is standing unarmed in front of you, do you kill him? Is he a threat to your nation as he is?

Depends on what he's just done. Besides, if you only shoot the plane down, the pilot will be flying again shortly, barring injuries. I'm not saying you go out of your way to kill the pilot. Pilot's are only aiming to stop the plane, but they accept the fact that they may kill the pilot. And also, you can't win a war without killing some of your enemies. It just can't be done.

Yeah, well, no... The Red Baron himself aimed for the pilot. Life and death is no sport, and the Hollywood view of WW1 air battles is horribly false. Pilots sat in open cockpits, in cramped conditions for hours on end. Nerves are shredded when you were expected to die in two weeks. Dogfights are not romantic, people die.
I do agree on OP lasers, but war is not fair, so yeah

What is the aim of any military action? To disable the enemy's war equipment. Aiming at the operator is unnecessary, its just easier. Actually think about it.Β
