I had to stop and take a closer look because at first glance it struck me as a 3D model without any textures applied. So on the plus side, shading and such are great. But on the minus side, there's no texture to anything. His muscles should have striations like you see on bodybuilders, some patches of hair to give more life and texture to the surface, the armor should have some scratches and some threadbare patches ought to be visible on the cloth. Basically, it's missing textures.

Oh, for sure. It annoys me that I still can't do textures, but because my basics isn't there yet, perspective, anatomy and lighting, it's not something I want to touch on just yet. This piece alone took such a long while.

I'm still learning as well, and I can say with certainty that you're much farther along than me. However, I've started experimenting with texture already and it's helping me all over the place. Even something as simple as a few cross hatched lines done with a fine point tool at low opacity here and there will help with this.
The point is, there's no exact moment in your progression where you start learning texture. Just try and think about it as you go along on your next pieces.
