I thought that episode was really sad....not just because Simon Petrikov looks like Santa but just the main concept. The crown made him evil and basically locked away his humanity and every single memory he had. He doesn't remember Marcy or his fiance or just his past, and he gives that past no regard and doesn't even understand it.

The hardest thing for Marcilene, indeed the hardest thing for anyone in a similar situation, was looking at him as he is now. They used to laugh around the camp fire, when they had a camp fire. She could still remember that, still remember the first thing he said to her.

She looked down at the bear in her hands, then up at his face, framed by his snowy beard. Indeed she could never forget the first thing she said to him.
"Are you Santa Claus?"
At the time she didn't know why he was laughing so hard at that, but looking back, if she was there as she was now, she would have laughed at that too. She wished she didn't remember herself saying something so dumb, but how could she forget.
