For Mimato Week 2022 - Day 4: Historical Drama

Went for a period drama and decided to go full-speed ahead on the angst 😆 This was the AU I was planning to tie most of the prompts to but couldn't dedicate the time to bring it to fruition oTL Mimi's junihitoe by itself would've taken me a few hours to just to set base colors lmfao. Title is from Takanori Nishikawa's song "Crescent Cutlass" bc that's what I was listening to on repeat while drawing this hahah.

I like leaving my art ambiguous even tho I personally attach a backstory to most of my works bc it's more fun seeing others' interpretations. However, I was asked for a little more info on this AU: Yamato and Mimi knew each other in childhood. Yamato's parents were slain and his brother was lost in the chaos. Years later, Mimi is next in line to become empress, Yamato is a ronin that dedicated his life to try to find Takeru and avenge his parents. A war breaks out in the palace in which Yamato got badly injured trying to find Mimi but she finds him in tatters instead. That's all; I won't add or flesh out anything further since I'd rather do that for my originals lol but if this inspires someone, then yay :>

Ngl, this made me miss doing fantasy since I've always said I'm a shonen-inspired artist attempting to do shoujo art lol. ...Luckily the day 7 prompt is fantasy
