That's kind of a dumb rule isn't it? Of course you'd call it soccer in America because America has it's own kind of football and calling it football would just confuse the laity. But in most other countries you'd call it football because that's it's real name; soccer just being a shortened, Oxford-ed version of the name "asSOCiation football."

So if you're going for universality you'd say "football" instead.

Simplifying a rule to just "because I think it's gay" is a bit silly, don't you think?

Silly Mr. M, discussions don't end because of some silly troll behavior pattern. They end when people have nothing else to talk about or other such arrangements. When you talk to people on the internet, half of the person you talking to is the words on the screen, and the other half is your own imagination. You have no idea what I look like, who I am, what I'm doing. Your mind fills in the inflections for you. You could read what I say and think I am laughing my ass off, bawling my eyes out, or even riding a unicycle while balancing a fishbowl on my head.

Accusing someone of communism doesn't necessarily bring someone's national ties into question, not in this day and age. The Cold War conflict wasn't necessarily a problem of political beliefs so much as a fight over nuclear power between the two then-current superpowers, the Soviet Union and the USA. In fact, attacking someone for being communist is in fact more anti-American than Communism itself, since the freedom of expression and belief is one of America's chief idioms.
