It is made out of Shrinky Dink paper that I printed the art onto. You cut the designs out and when you bake them they shrink down.

I love the crispness of the colors. I've been messing around with Shrink Plastic and can not get the colors to come out correctly. Any suggestions?

Panduhmonium In reply to ManifestedDreams [2010-02-06 20:47:18 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

I think the crispness of the colors is dependent on two factors I think, the quality of your printer and baking. For baking though, make sure you do not bake them too long because it darkens the colors. It really helps if you have a oven you can see into while you are baking. I personally cannot see into my oven when I bake, but I have done these for so long now that I know in my oven it takes about 5-6 mins for the first batch to bake and 2-3 mins after because the pan is heated up already.

I put them on a index card and bake them on a glass pan. I've found glass works better for me in my oven, but you may have to see what works for yours. It's kinda tricky because all ovens are different. :/ I tried baking shrinkys in my friends oven before and they all came out messed up. It is REALLY important that your oven is at the right temp and that you let it preheat to make the temperature in the whole oven even or else they will warp. Oh and make sure the oven is not too hot because that will really darken the colors.

I hope some of that helped. @_@ lol

How did you make these??

Panduhmonium In reply to MonsterBrand [2010-02-05 00:18:17 +0000 UTC]

Shrink plastic as always! 8D These are the inkjet kind you can print on. Then you just cut them out, bake, and finish them off with acrylic spray like krylon. :0

Well you're in the US so...do you have Michael's around you..or Hobby Lobby or maybe Jo Anns. The only place by me that carries them is Michael's. But we don't have a Hobby Lobby here. :0 We also have another art store called Jerry's Artarama that sells graphix brand shrink film but I have never used that brand. I want to try it but it's always sold out haha.

MonsterBrand In reply to Panduhmonium [2010-02-06 01:46:03 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I have access to a Michael's AND a Hobby Lobby.
I guess I'll start looking there

When I go in the store, what exactly should I ask for though, "shrinky dink paper?" (haha)

thanks for all the help

Actually...I have found most of the time the people who work there have NO IDEA what you are talking about. It kinda makes me mad lol. But, it should be near all the scrapbooking paper and stamp pads. But yes say shrinky dink paper. Don't say shrink film if you ask them or they will take you to the plastic shrink wrap bags that go over like new games and such lmao. >_>;

MonsterBrand In reply to Panduhmonium [2010-02-06 23:07:11 +0000 UTC]

ok, that is what I will ask for then

Maybe next weekend I'll head over to Michaels and/or Hobby lobby to try this out.
Thanks again for all the info. I really appreciate it and I cna't wait to try this out because I've never made charms before
