So... I've been kinda in the art dumps lately, about feeling like I'm not moving forward too much with my art. I really want to get better at proper digital paintings; you know, no outline, not many layers, that stuff. But I've been finding it difficult to find a painting style that is both fun for me, and time efficient. I was finding it hard to get inspiration to keep trying with painting, but then I thought hey, why not work from a reference and see what happens?SO HERE I AM, WITH MORE ROBOTS. I thought I'd use one of my (terrible phone camera) screenshots of one of my Mass Effect 3: Multiplayer characters as reference! I really want to draw more Mass Effect related things, and Geth are my absolute favourite. This guy is my main when I play online, he's a Geth Engineer!! he doesn't have a proper name though whoops.
I'd definitely like to make an actual fan-character out of him one day!
Honestly? I haven't had this much fun with an art piece in a long time? None of this felt like a chore, and drawing from a reference was really fun!
I learnt so soooo much from working on this. I've finally found brushes that work for me when painting, and I learnt a lot about colouring without lines. I also learnt heaps about metallic, shiny surfaces from this!!
All of the actual painting is on one layer, with one deleted layer for the sketch, and one for the background.
I'm really pleased with this, and would super appreciate feedback or tips on this! I really want to learn!

This looks really great though, you did awesome work trying to get the metallic look~ not perfect but that shit is just impossible to draw. but you did epic there

Hey, your art looks good! I mean, good! It's professional looking, eye-catching, thought-provoking, stimulates the imagination. Who says all artists have to subscribe to the same workflow? If all artists worked the same way and accomplished everything the same way, art wouldn't change or evolve much, and every piece out there would kind of become less special.
I say, whatever works, works. You get great results doing what you do, the way you do it. If it's fun, just do it your way.
