Description The concept behind Batman Day was very neat. My only regret was not having enough money to buy Batman-related things from my local comic book shop.

This was a sketch I drew months ago. I was experimenting with inks and I wasn't satisfied with the results, so I threw it on the pile of regret. Once news Batman Day surfaced, I brought this piece back to life. Sometimes, a little bit of time can change your perspective on art. I had to take into consideration that I was an emotional wreck when I penciled and inked it.  Really, it could have been a masterpiece, I still would have thrown it in the pile. Now that I'm in a good place, mentally, my judgement is more positive.

Always love your Bats stuff The amount of attention and detail given to the shadows/inking is really breathtaking. Especially on the gargoyle. Awesome, as always!

Oh, that gargoyle was a pain.  I used an old brush for an ink-washing technique, but it didn't work out the way I planned. After locking it away for a while, I realized the result wasn't awesome, but it worked into something else---something I could live with. Besides, I unfortunately missed Hellboy Day, so I didn't allow myself to miss out on the Bat. Of course, a Henry McCoy Day would certainly get me out of bed. We need one of those.

Thanks!

Hi there, I wanted to ask if being that this page has so much artwork and such, if anyone here with art skills would like to work with me in making our own comics. I have over 80 characters, 50+story lines, and more. If anyone is interested, please message me.

Currently, I'm stretched a bit thin, tackling conceptual art for a film and an upcoming spot on a web comic. There's also sketch cards that need tending to. Besides that, I'm preparing for my own graphic novel, which should be completed by early 2015 (possibly March). I'm filled to the brim with projects, man.

You can try the forums here and over at Digital Webbing www.digitalwebbing.com/forums/ . Both are good for finding folk that are willing to collaborate, but Digital Webbing is specific to sequential art rather than a dedicated thread. Comic Art Commissions is another good place, but you'd have to break open the piggy bank. comicartcommissions.com/ You might have a better time with that because you'll be paying the artist, which doesn't leave much room for someone to flake on you... or disappear... or whatever people do when they're not on the internet. Cash incentives are lovely, but you can also cut a deal and agree to split the profits with your creative team. There's all sorts of options.

Best of luck to you, Michael.

Do you mind me asking what it's about? or is it about your N-Possible character? sorry, very new to this site.

Y'know, my N-Possible character was built solely for practice with sequential art. She's kind of like an "internet exclusive," even though she's apart of the same continuity as my other characters. Problem is, I barely have time to draw her. I'm not even sure if I can kick out any pages for Deviant Universe. My biggest dilemma: practice or make something that can produce profit? Truth is, I need both.

Right now, I'm going to level up on the job and make profit a priority. Sequentially, I'm not terrible as I tend to believe, but plenty of artist exorcise their demons and slay their inner-monsters while working on their original material. It helps establish style, tell a story without restrictions, and, with a bit of luck, it can pay some bills.

I'll release details about the graphic novel in a journal very soon. Something... official.

Are you going to try to mass-produce/sell physically? or like only make one final copy, scan it, and then sell it on places such as Comixology?

I was thinking about doing a limited print run, possibly a hard cover. Ever since I brought my first hardcover, I always wanted to make one. There are more options for presentation and they tend to last longer than paperbacks. Of course, I would be kinda dumb not to make it available through digital distribution. Comixology is popular, so it would make sense to let them host it. So, it would be a double-whammy of something you can hold in your hands along with the digital option.

I'm looking at Humanoids Inc. They're pretty good for consumers because you can purchase a book and get the digital version free. www.humanoids.com/ It's good to have a plan, but the main thing to do is complete the pages. That's my biggest problem. Once everything is set, I can browse through the possibilities.

That's a good plan, but what are your thoughts on post-release? Like, would there be a continuation if enough people asked for it, or would it be done? Sorry for late reply, was volunteering out a summer school program.

I'll have to think about that one.

Yeah, I mean I don't know how you plan to end it (i'm not asking btw) but a continuation will probably be wanted. But yeah, you're kind of lucky you know how to draw and create your story. I've been creating story for seven months, more than 15yrs worth in real life, and not an issue in sight.

Collaborations take time. Finding the right team that meshes well is a job all its own... Shit, I remember back in 2009, when I was trying to submit a comic to Image, I couldn't find an inker. It was a ghost town on the internet, man... The folks I knew weren't confident in their abilities to take on a large project, especially on a monthly basis. The folks that were confident (budding professionals) charged out the wazoo, which was completely understandable. The problem was not having any money or an iron-clad guarantee that the publisher would pick up the title. It's difficult to get someone in the trenches riding solely on a gamble. From that experience, I decided to ink my own work just to avoid stress.

Keep networking and you will find your creative team. It's a hustle, but you'll certainly get results sooner or later. It's only a matter of time, man. Additionally, you can add to your deviantART gallery. Put up some writing samples (scripts, character profiles, anything). Establish yourself as a writer here, then the artist should have something to work with. You don't have to upload your babies---your most prized characters, but you should give everyone a taste of your writing style---the thing that makes you stand out among other writers.

The game is harder for writers because, unlike artist, people have to invest more time. Anyone can look at a drawing for 5 seconds and have an opinion, but getting people to read... that's always an uphill march. That being said, I feel your pain. I know it because I've been working towards being a screenwriter for film and television. At first, it was an ugly experience  because nobody wanted to read my screenplays---even my own Mother. In fact, it's a nice way to find out who REALLY cares about your passion. Hahahahah! Anyway, the folks that agreed to check it out my scripts didn't provide any feedback. Why? Life got in the way; bills 'n shit, laziness, Candy Crush, who knows? Those PDFs are collecting dust in their inbox. Now, the trick I learned was to ditch giving people an entire script. Anything over 5 pages is considered homework to the vast majority. The sad truth is that regular people don't want to read unless the writer is proven---the Stephen Kings, the Neil Gaimans, and Alan Moores of the world. The trick is giving people just a portion of your story, 10 pages or less. If they read it and ask for the rest, then you know you're working with something cool.

That's probably the best advice I've been given on this matter. What stings is the people I've had designing the characters are total flakes now that school's out. I have an outline done for 11 issues but no one to draw them. Actually, being that you seem to be quite experienced in this writing area, would you mind if i sent you an outline? It's less than 4 pages long. I'm in honors English, and I have a good imagination, but I'm still just a newblood in this field.
