Now these are oddly attractive birds - those wonderfully pretty pink feathers are oddly contrasted with the peculiar bill, yet somehow these two disparate elements harmonise!

Thanks Tony... my field guide tells me they are "rare and local in shallow salt water" and that they start out white and get more intensely colored with age. We saw some really
colorful ones but way out of range.
