Description
TW for death!!
In the distant future it’s discovered that alicorns grow mortal if they don’t use their magic. This isn’t quite the surprise to Celestia and Luna the way it is to Twilight. Twilight has long assumed their roles and the two sisters could feel themselves wasting away. There isn’t any fear or uncertainty for the two. They had spent many lifetimes together and were long ready for this. The same could not be said for who they would be leaving behind. All of the princesses had lost numerous mortal friends through the years and Twilight has to learn to let go of two she didn’t think could go.
Towards the end the sisters find themselves comforting Twilight more than each other. They find themselves with one last impossible task: preparing her for their departure. They spend their final hours with her and princess Cadence recounting precious memories, sifting through photos from ages fast, singing old tunes, and telling their favorite stories for the last time. They pass peacefully together.
The entire kingdom grieves, but none like Twilight. The sun and moon hang together in the sky. She can’t gather herself to speak at their celebration of life. The only constant left in her life is Cadence, but she has to grapple with the possibility that even she would someday pass.
Twilight struggled immensely with their choice to die, but eventually she would understand.
