Description I haven't drawn anything in years. So this was quite an ordeal. Inspired by the end of Twilight Princess, though as I drew the more I saw him as any incarnation of Link who might be coming to terms with what his life is after his quest is over. What is there for him? Is there fame, glory, does he get the girl, is he fulfilled? Or is there emptiness? Anxiety? Broken bonds? My headcanon is that in Twilight Princess he has a hard time coping with Midna being gone and everything he has experienced, so he's just... sitting out here in his old clothes, in the peaceful Hyrule field, wondering about it all. Recalling Rusl's words.

"Tell me... do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls? They say it's the only time our world intersects with theirs. The only time we can feel the lingering regrets of spirits who have left our world. That is why loneliness always pervades the hour of twilight."

CRITICISM PLEAAASE. I want to badly to get better. I have a long way to go.

First of all, I just want to say how amazing this is. I've seen a lot of fanart, almost none of which brings the feels like this picture. I've been writing a story on FanFiction called The Bonds of Light and Shadow and I've been trying to find an art piece for the cover image. Your piece of art is very similar to how I started my story, and I think it would be a perfect choice. If you don't want me to use it, that is perfectly fine. I'll only use it if you give me permission.

NICE. Wow, the skyscape is beautiful - especially the clouds. I love the warmth of the colour. And you've done a good job with the lighting on his face and clothes and hair (I think - I am not an expert). The folds and something about the way you painted it give his clothing a nice fabric-texture-y soft look. I especially like the folds/lighting/texture around his elbow and arm. The contrast of the sharpness of the man in the foreground with the fuzziness of the mountains in the background gives it depth.

Criticism: The lighting on the inside of his leg appears brighter than the lighting on his knee, shin, arm, and face, which seem to be facing the light source more directly. I think his left shoulder is a bit too ... long? And I would normally expect to see the front of a tunic/shirt falling almost straight down and then being gathered in by the belt in a sort of ( shape when someone is sitting in that position, rather than clinging tightly to his torso in a ) shape as it is here. (Unless it's meant to be very closely fitted, in which case please disregard.) Lastly, the dark atmosphere is great, but his left leg appears to be cut off by shadow, rather than (I think) having part of it hidden by grass/terrain.

...And this is the first thing you've drawn in years? I say again: NICE. You've done some good work here.

AAhhhh!! Thank you so much!! All of your critiques are totally on point! ^_^ And all stuff I wasn't catching. After looking at things long enough it becomes hard to pinpoint what's wrong, you're just left with a nagging feeling that something just IS. Ahaha. Which was how I felt about this piece. Until you came along <3

AND I JUST FREAKING NOTICED I DIDN'T TOUCH HIS CHAIN MAIL AT ALL *faceplant* Geezus....

And yea, for like the past... twwoooo years I've barely drawn anything. Just some headshots of characters, etc in a sketchbook every once in a while. This is the first actual "drawing" I've done in a very long time. And it doesn't even have a face in it xD Like, 1/3 of a face. And I've done NOTHING on the computer. Sai and I are slowly getting reacquainted...

AHEM

ANYWAYS. Thank you SO much, for your time and effort and support. I can see myself revisiting this piece in the future with your advice in mind.

You're welcome! <3 Yeah, I know, it's like ... when you've been writing something and you've read it over and over again, fifteen times, and you never notice that you've written "conscience" instead of "conscious" because your eyes are just used to the way it looks. I know that feel.

Haha, wow! You picked a pretty big/complicated project for your first thing! Well, it came out well - anyway it's got a good feeling to it, warm and kind of soft. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work! (And if you do remake/rework this piece, of course I'd love to see it, too).
