Thanks! I actually find human characters easier to make because I know what the shape of their forms should be.

They are easier for me to draw then cut, but the one thing I dread about people is doing hands. Oh my gosh it's terrible. That's why I'm glad ponies have no fingers xD

Hands are very difficult! Especially if you are working on a small scale. They aren't too bad when they are larger, but the little shapes, ugh, so difficult. Eye lashes and eye highlights are nerve wracking too.
My advice with people is to start with a fresh blade when working on the details of the face and hands. A fresh blade makes a big difference.

i completely agree, i wouldn't even attempt to cut any delicate details without a fresh blade. i save older blades for large parts that don't have to look absolutely perfect.

Wow! Mulan is by far my favorite Disney character, and I must say that you've done a great job here, especially the details on her face.

Thanks! I've said it a few times here, but I love the Canford black paper. It performs so well and is at least half the reason I love this piece.

Thank you very much. The paper really helps create the fluidity of her hair.

Oh that's gorgeous. I loved how you managed to make the sculpture look delicate and fluid, as if Mulan was just about to toss back her hair and make a joke as the viewer's expense. The eyes in particular are amazing! So expressive! I can see such playfulness in them!

Thank you so much! The Canford paper (the black paper) takes shaping so well, it helps create volume and allowed me to keep the fluidity the Disney character designers created.

Thanks! I have to tell you, the Canford paper is fantastic. I never would have been able to cut those eyelashes out of the Canson and kept them clean. I also really like the depth of her mouth, which can be seen better in person.
