First time scratch boarding! Yay!
This is supposed to be a study of Black Tailed Jack Rabbits for my science illustration course. However, it is actually my favorite Watership Down characters. Starting from the top is Fiver, Strawberry, Hazel, Bigwig and Silver. I wanted to add Dandelion and Major Holly, but seven rabbits is a lot.
I thought that I was being subtle, but Watership Down was mentioned a few times during the critique.

A phenomenal use of the medium! Your fur texture is nice and realistic while still retaining a lot of character and artistic flourishes. I'm curious about your midtones- some of them look so smooth, it looks like you used an eraser, or went back in and added some grey pigment? I can't exactly tell.

Actually, my ink was very transparent. In some places, I left it to just one coat. I'm so glad that you enjoyed it though! This is my first scratchboard project.

I could tell which one was Bigwig! their expressions are great and i like the strands of grass at the feet too

well, even if you needed more practice, it looks like you knew exactly what you were doing

It's just like those packs of black paper you can buy at craft stores. The ones where you can use a needle or something to scratch away the black paint and underneath is like gold foil or something? This is just like that, only you put on the black paint yourself.

Ahh! I know what you're talking about.. some one got me the ones with a picture already on it and you just had to scratch out the picture.. found it fun, but I wanted to do one of my own.. I think I put plain scratch boards in my wish list on Amazon... But creating one yourself sounds pretty cool

No....It's nothing like that.
This is a clay treated board where you can paint on ink and then scratch it away when necessary. It's not printmaking, and the scratching itself is not difficult, just planning it out is.
