Description This is actually part of an assignment for my field sketching class, where I had to mimic the style of another illustrator. I happened to choose an artist here on DA, whom I have admired for years. A cookie to whoever figures out the mystery artist!

This is a real breed of Bantam chickens, and yes, the rooster's tails get that long and longer. Bantams are much smaller than normal chickens, and are pretty much useless in terms of meat and eggs. I suppose people breed them because they are so lovely.

I spy with my little eye, someone who loves Himmapaan ~ !
Whilst browsing through paintings of roosters, I saw the icon and thought it was done by him; beautiful use of watercolors!

Me and my family raise cochin bantams and their eggs are the size of a normal chickens, even though they're 1/4 the size of a regular hen ^ ^
They take up less room and they eat less as well; it doesn't hurt that they're lovely, though

Gorgeous Phoenix chickens.  The Onadagoris are especially fantastic, and you have the bantam physiology very well exemplified.  The standard-sized Phoenix is a very regal-looking bird, but I like the fact that you chose the bantam, as it makes the portrait unique.  Most people focus on the standard Phoenix, so your choice definitely stands out to me.

I've always had a soft spot for bantams. I think if I do more poultry art in the future, I'll be doing a lot more bantams. I'm glad you could tell it was a bantam, rather than a standard rooster. Most of my classmates had no idea what I was talking about.

I rescue roosters, and have been working with chickens strictly for about five years now.  One thing I've noticed about bantams, even though they're technically supposed to be "the exact same" as the standard breeds but smaller is that bantams have larger wings compared to their bodies, and larger eyes on tiny heads.  They have ever-so-slightly different proportions than the standards as comes with any time you miniaturize an animal.

I, personally, love the folklore behind the Silkie.  In China, where the Silkie was made, it is believed that the Silkie is the physical manifestation of the phoenix, so I've done a few pieces combining Silkies, fire, and phoenixes.  Also, silkies just look so strange compared to what people think of when they think "chickens" that it's fun to present them to the average populace.

I believe both Silkies and Phoenixes were considered "living lawn ornaments" in Asia, too.  That's a fun thing to incorporate into presentation.

Very, VERY accurate (don't want to spoil the guessing for anyone)! I've always admired artists who can make the most unsuspecting animals beautiful

These are some lovely chickens, I really like that pretty composition you created with their tails!  Great job with the technique too, can't say I recognize the artist you were trying to mimic, but this piece stands out very nicely all on its own!  Nice work

Wow, I mean Wow!
you continue to amaze me with your birds and as much as I absolutely hate chickens I have to admit these ones are beautiful.
I love how you were able to make this composition so well balanced, meaning the long dark feathers do not take to much from the actual subject figure, but instead lead you to it.
And I know the artist so you owe me cookie!

pffffft. Of course you know the artist. You probably didn't need to see the image to know the artist I would pick.
