I'd just like to point out, in no way am I a fan girl xDI wanted to draw someone with tattoo's and Id just bought Kerrang magazine, with a feature on Oli and Josh, so this was born, hah.
Only used an ordinary HB pencil (I have no idea how to use any of the other ones -_-')

That's too bad! You could really bring in some dynamic and less flat shading in here, and really ramp up the contrast and appeal if you went some of the softer lead pencils that result in a "darker" shade. You should really experiment

Seeing as I left school last year and started college, I was hoping it would be something we would cover, however we seem to be doing anything but!

What?!? You DIDN'T cover graphite pencils and lead softness/hardness?? What nonsense!
Take a good drawing class, and you'll learn A LOT. ^^
I was fortunate enough to have a natural knack for that kind of stuff, and to have an Advanced Placement/college level course in my high school.

I wish you the best of luck! I'm still young myself, and you've got some good, raw, talent if you haven't even had very good instruction art-wise. Keep on Trying! With this kind of talent, if you work hard, you can go far :3
