With the death of the king and queen, the murderer declared himself the new ruler and quickly consolidated his power. He was a cruel and oppressive ruler, and the people of the kingdom suffered greatly under his rule. Poverty, murder, and torture became the norm.
The two sisters were young at the time of the murder, but they managed to escape the castle with the help of a loyal servant. They fled to a small settlement in the woods and lived there in hiding for many years.
