PERSONALITY

Materialistic - Winry puts WAY too much importance on material goods. She'll do almost anything if she'll get something nice out of it. This makes her a bit more critical of those with less money and a bit of a bad spender ironically. She'd probably for-go getting groceries in order to buy a really expensive necklace. It's a terrible habit that she just can't seem to get over. Maybe don't trust her with your money.
Vain - It's not that she judges other people's looks, she's just SO obsessed with her own. Winry gets this from her mother who also put a lot of emphasis on looks and taught her daughter all about makeup and eating right. On the outside, she seems really confident and knows she's hot stuff but she's wearing a mask. She tries so hard to look perfect because she feels like she isn't and needs to be.
Overbearing - Like an annoying parent, Winry is overbearing to the point of annoyance. It may be nice at first to have her constantly checking up on you but she also tends to hover and butt in when she has no place too. This also leads to her trying to act like everyone's therapist which isn't always welcomed.
Motherly - Winry's mother was a kind woman who acted motherly to everyone she met. She supposes that's why she's so motherly herself. If someone's hungry, she'll cook for them. If someone's upset, she'll comfort them. She does enjoy being there for others despite her faults and will gladly be there for anyone who needs her.
Outgoing - Winry has no problem talking to people and can read others pretty well. She was trained to be good at public speaking from a young age and it transfers well into her everyday life. This makes her really good at making friends and not enemies (and getting what she wants).
Ambitious - To live your life unfulfilled is to never live at all. Winry may not know exactly who or what she wants to be yet but she works hard every day to get there. Exploring new horizons, trying new things, she's always striving for her goals and trying her best to be SOMETHING.
Stubborn - Being told no isn’t going to stop Winry from getting what she wants. If anything, it pushes her to to what she wants anyway. She’s headstrong to an annoying degree and isn’t one to budge, especially during an argument. It seems good reasoning won’t even sway her when she has her mind set on something.
Adaptable - Winry has had a lot thrown at her and is usually ready for anything. She refuses to think that she can’t handle a challenge or new situation which has led her to try a plethora of things. Really, she’s always up for trying anything once.

HISTORY

Winry grew up in a wealthy family that were highly regarded in their city. Though her father, who sat on the city council, was quite money hungry, this wasn't very clear to anyone outside of their family. Yet, Winry's life was a fairly easy one growing up. Everything was served to her on a silver platter. This in itself though bred boredom. The absolute emptiness of her life led her to find all kinds of hobbies. Her mother, who was a more creative spirit, got her into beauty, cooking, and reading. Her father thought they were wasting their time but they bonded and enjoyed it.

It was no secret to everyone that Winry was set on forging her own path, but that didn't stop her father from controlling her. He wanted her to make their family richer and proud. She argued with him on this constantly but he was a stubborn man. He insisted that she marry wealthy and embrace their lifestyle and image. Unluckily for him, Winry was an ambitious soul and this only drove her further away from him and more towards independence. She worked any job that would accept her and tried a multitude of new things like archery, writing, fishing, cycling, playing the guitar, and chess. She made her own money and, slowly but surely, began saving up for a life of her own.

Her future seemed bright for a moment...but just a moment. Her father found her stash of savings and he asked what it was for. In his heart he knew but he grew furious at the thought. When she confirmed his suspicions, it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Winry was set back to square one and more miserable than ever. In a weeks time Winry's job was gone, her money was confiscated, and she was set to marry. Her mother tried her best to comfort her daughter but knew that there was nothing she could do. She was in the same boat; they both weren't allowed to have their own lives.

One day, when Winry was looking through the mail, she saw a letter. It was unlike one she'd seen before and it immediately caught her attention. "Toffee Town?" An advertisement for a fresh rural town sat in her hand and an idea sprung to her mind. Her chance to escape was right here, to run away and LIVE. And so, after a week of debating, she decided to go. She packed up her things and left. It didn't matter what job she had or where she'd live or ANYTHING in that moment. It was time to live her life.
