dude you are amazing
it's nice to see your progression from old to new works, you've gotten so much better!
could you give me some tips for improvement? (other than a TON of practice)
like are there some good resources online for critique/help with improving?
thank you so much

Thanks! The main factor is indeed practice. But it needs to be practice with an objective. You find your weaknesses by experimenting. You improve by doing things you hate because you're bad at them, and you just keep trying, and figuring out how things work, what they look like.ย
Aside from that there's also taste which is something most people don't like to talk about. But it's the most important thing. You get better taste by, you guessed it... experimenting. Not just experimenting in art but experimenting in life. Travel, go outside, read books, etc. I only learned the importance of this recently.ย
To sum up my advice... experiment, experiment a lot.ย

I do plein air every day (missing a few days when I simply can't), I just have an A4 moleskine sketchbook which is really great quality, brushes, paint tubes, pallette, a pencil and watecolor tape all go in the same small bag, and a bottle of water and a small container for the water when painting. I just put all of that in my backpack and bike around my area (I'm on the edge of a town, there is a decent amount of countryside to explore). I also have a portable seat which is actually for fishing enthusiasts but it's so damn useful, it's like a tripod that collapses and can fit on the side of my backpack... All of this is not very heavy, and it takes 5 minutes to prepare. Gets a little hairy when there's a lot of wind (you'll have tape, water, brushes flying everywhere). I think it's worth the trouble. I find it very therapeudic. I do it mostly for fun, although I always want to improve.ย
