Minimum Minimorum!

just less than enough. or is it more?

moscaliovam In reply to partiallyHere [2013-12-20 14:36:34 +0000 UTC]

A very interesting question.
Is minimum less than enough or more than enough?
Why do we love minimalism?
I love it because it says everything (almost everything) telling nothing (almost nothing).
It's 100.000 fruitcakes on a single tray.
This is its main attraction as I see it.

partiallyHere In reply to moscaliovam [2013-12-20 18:00:46 +0000 UTC]

if there was 3 fruitcakes on the tray, my belly would like to eat 2 and my eyes would like 3. if there was 100.000, i think i'll take one, or even one bite will be enough.

Ah, it would be the overflow effect.

But it's impossible to keep 100,000 cakes in a single tray!
It's only 1 in fact.
You can never reach the rest.
You are Never Fed Up.
I think that's what minimalism is.

good definition. global. maybe art critics won't agree. who cares

moscaliovam In reply to partiallyHere [2013-12-22 09:04:54 +0000 UTC]

Mmm, I understand any art in a symbolistic way.
Minimalism is using minimal means, that's its main feature, but what I said above can be said about all the kinds of art.
There are other ways of understanding art, of course.
Some are totally different.

Souhait pieu...

partiallyHere In reply to Izaaaaa [2013-12-18 17:56:08 +0000 UTC]

RichardLeach In reply to partiallyHere [2013-12-17 21:39:15 +0000 UTC]

an excellent reason which i have used myself! we're not driving high-speed trains around corners here - it's art, it's play, it's serious but it's serious fun.

RichardLeach In reply to partiallyHere [2013-12-17 21:44:51 +0000 UTC]

yes indeed. you know, art can be a lesson in taking things lightly. many things people treat as life-and-death are really not.

of course, some things really ARE life-and-death - and sometimes those get treated lightly by mistake.

pardon the philosophy - i get this way when snow-bound as you know
